we've always put the luggage scales in our hand luggage and have not had one of those bag moments (had other bag moments for different things but I guess that could be whole different thread!). Now I'm nervous and will try to remember to pack them in future! It was after our tarmac experience that we bought the luggage scales

Last March when we checked into MCO our bags were slightly over and they VA check in girl said that on the way back they were slightly more lenient with the weight and would let and extra 2kg per bag go through!

We have learnt that you never need as much stuff as you think..I always had clothes that I took but never wore when I was there. We also do a wash and go for a swim while its doing. We also pack case inside case and take items like trainers to throw when we replace them out there. Toiletries we take enough for the time we are there.

I would say put everything you think you are going to wear/need on the bed then put half it away again!!

That's a good tip! there's always some clothes I never wear but take 'just in case'

We also do the same thing as you Queendisney, as the laundry room is by the pool we put a wash on and swim / sunbathe while its washing. It's buying presents etc that's too hard to resist

Loving the compression bags, was looking at the vac ones, hadn't thought you could get ones where you didn't need to bring the dyson as well!

I must admit I was surprised how good the roll up ones that you don't need a vacuum for. I used it for soft toys and it was very effective.

I brought a mountain bike back from Florida, free as was classed as sports equipment.

Make it look like sports stuff and you'll get free allowance think that's still the case with Virgin anyways.

we bought an extra bag last week in Walmart for $30 and paid virgin for an extra bag ... worked out cheaper than paying to take our own out with us. I'm afraid 40% off in Old Navy sucked us both in .... and when you add our $300 disney gift card that came with the package we had no choice!

We did the same in November and bought a 14 dollar holdall which was great and paid extra baggage before getting to the airport. That holdall also folds down to a flat pack so we are taking it again this year just in case.

Someone mentioned posting a box back but you will probably end up with charges in the uK so I wouldnt recommend that

I am trying to not take as much this year but it probably won't happen but the benefit is that DD and her boyfriend are coming this year so we will have 4 suitcases to pack everything between
