I've been reading some threads that mention to bring your own plastic cups to fill. I know we need to use the ships little cups to fill our cups. No problem.

What type of cups do you bring? Tervis type cups with lids? Do you bring them with you or buy them on the ship? I have some Tervis ones, but I'm wondering if I should buy some cheap ones and just toss them when done.

TIA

I was going to bring my large Turvis cups, but read somewhere here on the Dis that sunscreen can ruin the finish on them. So instead, I bought the large "Cool Gear" double-walled cups from Wal-Mart. The ones with a screw-on top and straw. Not as well insulated as Turvis, but worked fine. We didn't use them all the time, but it was nice to keep drinks cold while by the pool. Also, would fill them and bring them back to the room.

I bring my older Tervus cups and some of the resort mugs. I do not bring anything that I would be upset to lose.

We bring along our 24 oz Tervis (or buy on the ship if it's a new design!) We use them throughout the cruise since the cups by the drink station are so small.

We brought reusable water bottles. We didn't use them at all. It turned out to be a waste of space. Getting a drink from the drink station was no big deal. I drank less on the ship than I expected. Now I know for next time

We have plastic reusable water bottles that we bring with us. They have the pop-up covers on the top to keep them from spilling. But the rim round the top also pops up to make a carrying handle. This is great when you are bring food back to the table (or room) because you can carry your plate and drink in one hand (using fingers under the plate to carry the bottle) and still have a free hand to open doors.

We always have reusable bottles for the plane ride anyway (I don't like having drinks sitting on the tray tables the whole time so we put them in the bottles instead so they can be stored in the seat back). So now they do double-duty. Each person carries their own bottle in their carry-on bag so they don't take up luggage space. :thumbsup2

we brought the double walled cold cups- got them cheap at the dollar store so if I needed to ditch them I could for space. I put stuff in them to not waste any space!

Great idea to use the WDW resort mugs, I've got a heap of those and never use them. Will take them in our cruise in September ;)

I was thinking about bringing a few of the red solo cups and lids. Would that work?

You could. I have never seen red solo cup lids. Where do you get those? My reason for bringing my Tervis with me on the cruise is that I love ice in my drink, the more the better, and the drink cups onboard only allow a small amount of beverage if I put a lot of ice in it. Also, I love the Tervis because it is insulated and keeps my drinks cold for much longer than the paper cups and doesn't drip condensation. I have the large 24 oz one.

Some in our group bought the $1 tumblers with lid and straw at Wal Mart before our cruise and they worked well too.

We brought our resort mugs, and they worked out perfectly. Once you fill up with ice those little cups onboard are perfect to fill it with.

A couple of the other advantages I found in taking our Turvis cups (or something similar) were:

1. They had weight to them. On the sea days when we were sitting on the upper decks, the lighter Disney cups would sometimes be blowing around once they were empty or close to empty

2. It was easy for me to take the cups for our cabin and run to the drink station and fill everyone's cups at the same time. Again the flimsiness of the cups provided would make it a little more challenging to carry 3 or 4 of them with out them squishing.

These are just little things but a couple of the reasons we were glad we had our Tervis Tumblers.

I use the DisneyWorld refillable mugs with Lids and Handles
But any thermal cup with a handle and a lid will do. :coffee:

The handle is very important, it allows you to go get 3 cups and carry them in one hand so you have a hand free for the snack :yay:

I have a collection of these. From various years.
