Hey,

We are flying us airways and I can't find the info on the site. Can we bring car seats for our girls aged 8 and 5?

I only see where it says infant car seats. Not sure if they will count as checked luggage?

Thanks!

No US airline counts a car seat against your checked baggage allowance (except maybe Spirit; I didn't check).

A car seat is a car seat, whether it is for an infant or an older child.

Car seats or boosters? If they are boosters, they are not allowed in the pax. compartment of the plane for use during any part of the flight.
Call the airline re: questions re: counting as checked luggage.

OP was asking about checked baggage. No need to call. See post #2.

Yes, you can bring a booster seat on a plane as carry-on. You just can't use it.

No offense, but, if I want a real answer to any policy anywhere, I call or check the website. Post#2 actually said something totally different than the one you just "corrected" me on (yet again).
The only time I take anyone at their word on any board anywhere is if they actually work for the company in question. Even then, they make mistakes, I am a very good example of that.

I have carried on low back booster seats on US air, SWA and Jet Blue. They can fit under the seat in front if you as well as in the overhead. They did not count toward our carry on limit.

US airways policies as stated on the website are unclear as the section on checking and carryon for carseats is under "infant". Some states require a carseat for much older children (FL isn't one of them :( ).

I am rather surprised at how lax FL is on car seat laws. Thankfully, they do insist those under 18 have a seat belt on, but, that begs the question, when does it become a safety thing and when does it become dangerous to the child who needs a booster. Make sense?

Not sure what you are asking me, what makes sense?

I never said I agree with the FL laws - my kids used boosters until they passed the 5 step test and they are both driving now so it isn't an issue for me. FWIW I fully approve of the OP bringing seats for the kids. That isn't the issue however, what I was wondering is if FL law doesn't require a carseat for the children then does the airline have to allow them free of charge?

I was just asking if what I said makes sense. As to the FL law, I just mentioned how surprised I was at how lax it is, certainly not inferring that you do or do not agree with them.
I would imagine, if the airline allows them to be either checked or carried on it does not really matter where they arrive.
Frankly, I wish more parents were like you regarding safety for children in cars. I have, on more than one occasion, stopped people from leaving the garage ( I was required to do this for liability purposes) because little kids were not properly restrained. I even had one woman who had a year old child standing on the floor in the front by the door. I had a guy wanting to bargain with me on the price of the seat per day, he stopped when I asked him what his kids were worth.
One of the things I love about the posters here is that they DO CARE about their kids and want to protect them at all costs. I just wish everyone was like the folks here.

Gotcha - thanks!

OT - but I am 50/50 on carseat laws because they are just a minimum and I feel every family should make dedisions on what is best & safest for their kids/family. FL is a bit lax but there are some states go a bit too far with the 8 and 80 vs 8 or 80 for example - but that's just me and MHO. My 16 yo is 87 lbs and would have been a booster through most of high school.

Back OT - I would think that US air would allow checked carseats free of charge for any age but if it were me I would call. I do know that you can carry on a low back booster with US Air. We prefered this over checking as I knew it would arrive with us and not be damaged.

Sorry, I don't understand this post.

Yes, always check your airline's website for their policies. I have advocated this many times.

Yes, you are free to take a booster seat on the plane as a carry-on, you just can't use it. You wrote that a booster seat is not allowed in the passenger compartment; this just isn't true.

Yes, a car seat for a child (does not have to be for an infant) does not count against your checked baggage allowance (Spirit may be an exception; I don't fly them).

You don't have to work for an airline to understand their policies! In fact, it's not unusual to be given incorrect information by them.

The question has been answered, so we're done here.

I'm not sure what the heck is going on lately but man, there seems to be a ton of bickering going on around here. Enough is enough. This is not very Transportation board-like!!!!
