For the last few years I have ventured to the states in the summer to meet up with some other Diser's I have met here. Last year I brought with me butter tarts to share. None of my friends had ever had them and they all adored them . ( they are fantastic). So I'm heading back to the world soon and I'm trying to think what should I bring this year? Nanimo bars? Joe Louis?

Any ideas of something I could bring?

Poutine, or brown gravy for their French fries?

A lot of it depends on where your friends are from. I know someone who ordered fries and gravy while in the states and they got fries with that white slop on top. I think they call it sausage gravy.

Poutine could be good, looking for something more travel able, that I could make here and bring with me. Of course I could just take them to the new Poutine spot in Disney Springs...

When I visit friends to the south.... they ask me to grab some ice wine.

Depending on which Province, town, or city you are from.... there may be local opportunities too.

We've brought small bottles of maple syrup and the "sampler" size of ice wine previous.

Ketchup flavoured chips are always a hit but they don't always pack well. Some of our chocolate bars (Coffee Crisp comes to mind) are popular.

Last yeari brought cheese curds. Froze them at home, and flew with them in my checked bag. Brought gravy mix with me then bought french fries and made poutine. They loved it. I also brought small maple syrup, coffee crisp, ketchup chips, and maple candy.....

On our last trip we visited with several friends and relatives in the southern states before our WDW stay. We picked up several bottles of maple syrup ( you know the ones in the maple leaf shaped bottles) and gave one to each as hostess/ thank you gifts. One morning we woke to find our friend had made crepes for breakfast. Topped with our maple syrup. Everybody loved them.

Head to the Dollar store and stock up on some mini Kit Kat and Coffee Crisps chocolate bars.

My American besties love Hawkins Cheezies, Hickory Sticks, Smarties, Coffee Crisps, packets of Swiss Chalet dipping sauce mix, and the small bottles of Maple Syrup. But the Hawkins Cheezies definitely top them all.

I used to know someone who liked me to take boxes of Shreddies when I visited them since they are not sold in the USA.

Donair meat is the same as gyro meat, isn't it? Being serious here.

As I understand it, the meat mix differs between a gyro and a donair; the former being lamb, the latter being beef.

Of course, if we're talking donairs, then it has to be a //proper// Halifax Donair: Shaved meat, diced tomatoes and onions (no other veg!), slathered with donair sauce (canned milk, vinegar, sugar, garlic powder), all inside a warm foil-wrapped pita.
