Bringing a laptop?

We also bring a Laptop for work for my husband. We have TSA pre check and DVC so no need to take it out of our bag and don't worry about Mousekeeping on a daily basis. It usually does fit in the safe if need be but it is a 15" laptop.

I'm in the camp that I just leave my laptop out in my room at this point in time. Having a laptop is not uncommon today - and I just don't think it's a high-theft item anymore. 20-25 years ago if you left a cell phone in stroller parking at Disney - it had a good chance of disappearing because cell phones were a new thing. Nowadays - while there is still a risk to that - few care about a strangers phone and that phone would just be ignored.

Most Disney housekeepers want to stay employed - and having items disappear out of rooms they were responsible for - it's not want they want to happen, either.

Sure - they might leave a door open by mistake or there might be an occasional bad apple - but risk isn't that high. I don't "hide" it in the room - because if someone really wanted to be a thief - they are going to search the room anyway. So - if you are nervous - lock your valuables in the safe, a locking suitcase, or get a lock to attach it to something in the room to slow down a thief.

In rooms with number coded safes - I put my excess cash and credit cards I don't need for the day in those. But if it's still one of those old-fashioned keyed safes - I don't because I'm afraid I'll lose the key!

This Jan we went to Art of Animation and my son brought his laptop. It is about 3 inches bigger then our Ipad Air 2. We could fit both IPad Airs and his laptop in the safe, no problem.

At least in May some airports were making people take out anything larger than a cell phone and put it in a separate bin....just like a laptop. This was also at some security lanes but not all to add to the unknown factor. I don't know if this still is going on.

Around that same time my own airport was making people take out any paper you had in your carry on (and yeah they meant any paper). I imagine the business people at that time must have been annoyed. I don't know if they are still doing this though.

Again I don't know if this is still going on. But my point is unfortunately there is no guarantees and things can change in a moment's notice.

In July, Austin-Bergstrom airport was also requiring us to take out tablets as was PDX.

But if someone is concerned they can lock it in their suitcase.

We have a back pack style lap top bags that are TSA approved. They unzips so you lay flat when sending through the scanner. The laptop doesn't have to be taken out

Though most of the time DH packs his in his checked bag since he doesn't use it on the plane. Usually ends up with a note that TSA checked his bag too

DH loves his laptop and is thinking about bringing it with us. (this is in addition to our phones and my tablet.) I am trying to talk him out of it. I would venture to guess that the in room safes are not big enough to hold a laptop.

(Are there safes in the rooms at WDW? Is this still a thing?)

Does anyone else bring your laptop or do you rely on getting your information from a phone or tablet?
If you do bring a laptop, how do you secure it in your room while you are out and about?

My husband's laptop fits in the safes at Pop, BWI, and AKL, but did not fit at All Star Sports. I have a 17" laptop, and his is smaller than mine, but I'm not sure by how much.

Over the last 20 years or so I have taken multiple trips to Disney, on cruises, and hotels with laptops and other electronic items. I long ago learned it wasn't worth worrying about trying to secure/hide the items.

So it looks like what they were doing in May they are now expanding in all airports in the U.S.

It isn't a huge enough deal for me to take my kindle out but for those that were either purchasing an electronic with the intent to not have to take it out or for those that have multiple electronics aside from a laptop already required to be taken out I can see where this could become an irritant.

My husband and I take an iPad and MacBook on trips and we leave them in a backpack with a luggage lock attached. We usually place the backpack behind something or in a corner turned backwards. We also usually decline housekeeping (utilizing "do not disturb" sign) until the 3rd or 4th day.

Yes! They are doing this. We have been in several airports this summer and all have required that laptops and tablets be placed in a completely separate bin.

Yep I agree. When we go to Disney we only put our wallets / credit cards/ jewelry in the room safe.
We leave our iPads/ kindle and our electronics out in the open and usually charging and have never had anything stolen in 7 trips to Disney and about 7 trips to the Caribbean.

I have brought a large dell laptop for school and just but it at the bottom of my suitcase and don't even worry about it. And I'm one to usually one to about stuff like that, like I won't even leave my glasses in my shoes at the waterparks.

Mousekeeping stealing a whole laptop would be far to obvious a caper.
