Has anyone taken a young relative with them across the border? What will I need besides her passport to avoid any hassles? Thanks for your help.

probably nothing, but i would personally get a signed note from both parents saying its ok for her to travel with you.

I agree, you should have a signed consent letter from both parents stating that they are letting you take their daughter across the border and states the specifics of the trip...dates, location etc. You might want to check out the government's Foreign Affairs web page, I think they may have something on this topic.

You for sure need a letter, signed by both parents with the dates of travel, as well as destination.
I don't know why anyone would tell you otherwise.

You need a signed letter of consent for the dates and location. It is well recomended that you have it Notarised. We do this and it cost approx 20.00. You should even do this if the child is yours and only one parent is travelling.

You will need to get travel health insurance for her and bring her provincial health card. Make sure you have some kind of legal declaration that you can authorize medical procedures in case you need to take her to a clinic or hospital if she is still a minor.

I think it depends how long you'll be gone. When I take dd without dh, I download the letter from the link (as posted above) and get dh to sign it. Make sure you have a cell # for her mom to be reached, just in case. But, honestly, I have never been asked for that letter anytime I have taken my dd accross on my own even though my PP is in my maiden name and hers in our family name.

My DD went on a trip to Dominican Republic with her girlfriend and her parents.....get a notarized letter!! We only paid $20 as well and the lawyer does it all...they fill in dates, passport number, name of temporary guardians and permission for medical treatment etc. Yes to the medical coverage also!..only cost $14 through CAA and you can do it online...

We also did this everytime we go to Disney as my DH never goes...

Well worth the peace of mind...
