Bring back the old days...

I'd have to respectfully disagree with the op. The podcast has certainly changed, but the video portion has added a new dynamic to the show and it has a very good flow to it.

I'm enjoying the content and the honest banter back and forth in the studio. I think some of the negative discussion is warranted so that we as listeners understand what we might expect when we go on vacation at Walt Disney World. Just my two cents. :)

Good point raised. I didn't think of that perspective. Thanks.

I know...let's bring back Nancy and Gordon!!!

THOSE were the "old days". ;)

Here's where I see a problem for ANY podcast on WDW...how much has changed at WDW?

You try and fill 60-120 minutes of content ~50 times a year...say, 100 hours of content. How do you not repeat yourself too often about the same things over and over again? If they were still doing the same things they were doing back and the start of the "roundtable" days, it probably would have lost audience.

Podcasts need to evolve. They need to change it up and "stay fresh". If the don't, the listeners get bored and leave. Worse yet, the talent gets bored and leave. Many WDW podcasts have come and gone. A handful have lasted as long as the DIS, and none of them are the same as the DIS. They are all different from each other.

I started listening to the podcast shortly before Bob passed, and I listen on my commute or the treadmill so I have not switched to video. There are some things that are missed on the audio version but I don't find that to be much different than when it was all audio and you could hear the team reacting to something going on visually that we couldn't see. When they have special video segments that interest me, I watch them later.

All of the team members bring a unique perspective to the show. They put themselves out there every week and share so much of their personal lives with complete stangers, and that takes alot of courage. I haven't had the privilege of meeting all of them in person (someday Kathy!) but feel truly blessed to have met most of them. The last things anyone could accuse one of them being is insincere or apathetic. Of course, they have a different perspective living there than those of us who don't, but I've never met a group of more genuine and passionate people.

Keep it up gang!!!!!

My two cents…

I am lucky because I volunteer in a church office on Tuesdays from 10 - noon pacific time. As I am there alone, I always have the podcast on. My peeps from Orlando keep me company! The videos that the Dis provide are the next best thing to being on property.

The restaurant reviews... thank you Kevin and John for being open and objective. I live in an area of California where the cuisine is top notch. I don't go to Disneyland or WDW for the food, but dining there is part of the experience. Why would I want to go a sub-par restaurant? I depend on those reviews to avoid being disappointed.

So, thanks to the entire podcast team for keeping it real.

I've been a long time listener and have even gone on one of the podcast cruises. Pretty sure I'm Kevin's biggest fan, literally and figuratively.

Anyways, I enjoy listening/watching the show as much now as I did then. I expect shows to change over time, that's just the way it goes. My stepfather and I did a racing podcast, so I understand the time and effort it takes to put together and audio podcast, I can only imagine how difficult a video one is. Plus, this is Pete's, John's, and Kevin's podcast and they can do with it whatever they want to. It's their creative concept.

I did find it difficult to make the transition from audio to video because I have to find a time to watch the screen, whereas before I could be doing whatever I needed to and just listen.

The only thing I'd ask from the podcast crew for is some more in-depth discussion about what's happening in the parks and around the Orlando area. I love it when the crew gets down and dirty with their opinions about what's happening.

Oh, and more Kevin restaurant reviews, those are golden.

I've listened/watched the podcast for a number of years now. I still really enjoy it, although I don't always get to see the podcasts right after they come out.

There were many times back in the "old days" when I wanted so badly to be able to see what they were talking about. Yes, I think perhaps there was more "silliness" or spontaneity in the old days that I miss, but I think the benefits of video far outweigh that.

I find it harder to find time to watch the video, it is just so easy to listen to a podcast while exercising, working or running errands and is much harder to find a few hours to sit and watch something. However, given the choice I will always watch the video version over the audio version, it's just more enjoyable.

As for the perceived negativity, I guess I see it more as realism. If you fake your response you really lose a lot of credibility. And also, the podcasters are incredibly clear that they are discussing the experience that they had on a particular day and that someone else's experience may not be the same.

As a side note - love the videos of fireworks and shows etc that are being put out, my kids and I love to watch them. I have no idea how much work it takes to create the overview videos that you guys do - I imagine it's probably a lot of work, but all I can say is that almost every time you put one out my first reaction is "man I wish that was longer!" So thanks!

As I listen to the podcasts from years ago, I am reminded of the freshness and excitement that used to exist for all things Disney. Of course there were critiques, but they were always with merit and done both respectfully and tastefully. As I scroll through the past years podcasts, I am sadly reminded of the great Dis podcasts of the past. Now, they seem poorly planned, rushed reminders of once great discussions and reviews. In my opinion, most of the regulars seem to feel almost bored by all things Disney. The podcasts seem like a "job" now, with average reporting and just poor banter. Maybe it's a simple transition from audio to video that has shifted the focus from creative and informative to how I look on camera. I continue to listen, but I grow less and less interested as weeks pass. I hope that the podcast family can breath some new life into a very special podcast because it truly feels like a simple shell of it's former self.
.

Just getting around to this thread. Honestly, for the life of me I cannot fathom how anyone could consider the addition of Craig, Shaun and Dustin, and the content that they have brought to the show, to be anything other than "fresh", "exciting", "well planned" and "creative". To say nothing of the special features such as :"7 in 7", "Drinks Around the World", live D23 coverage and podcasts from Alaska, Hawaii and Disneyland. I haven't a clue what the OP is pining away for, but if it involves a return to the "good old days" that had none of this content, then I want nothing to do with it.

I have not perceived any downturn in the quality of the shows. Pete, John and Kevin are every bit the correspondents that they have always been, (despite the fact that Kevin is half the man he used to be.:woohoo:). If you find the restaurant reviews to be too negative, well, perhaps this should tell you something. Disney-philes are far too quick to declare anything related to Disney to be great. But a restaurant reviewer's job is to be objective across the board and not rate on a curve. I want and expect an honest review to tell me that a particular restaurant is one of Disney's best, but still falls short of like-priced cuisine outside of the Kingdom walls, if, in fact, that is the case. Were a reviewer to tout every Epcot restaurant as "Four Star Cuisine", they would instantly lose credibility (at least with me). I served as a restaurant reviewer for many years and read dozens of reviews every month. In my opinion, John and Kevin, (and no offense to John, but especially Kevin) are among the finest, most honest, unpaid, unpublished reviewers out there who keep things informative and light. I don't always agree. But I always enjoy.

As for the video podcast versus the audio....well....things have changed and that change is inevitable. When the video podcasts began, we were told: "Nothing will change. It will be just as it always has, only live with video." Soon after the changeover, I noted that no, things are not just the same, and got scolded for saying that by Pete. "For God's sake. We just started. Give it time", I was told. But unfortunately I think Pete missed my point, which was that there had indeed been a change, but the change was for the better. I still feel that way. Every time Pete says" "Cut to me!", there can be no denying that the video podcast is not intended to be the same, and if you are only listening to the audio version, you are missing something. And when the video podcast inserts one of Justin or Craig's awesome videos into the podcast, that video is eliminated from the audio version. That is unfortunate for people who can only listen, but toning down the video content in an effort to make the new podcasts "just like the old days" would be unfair to all the great video content that Dustin, Shaun, Craig, Corey and occasionally Kathy and Teresa put together. There is no going back, nor should the crew even try.

I have tried and tried to give the OP a fair reading and the benefit of the doubt, but I'm sorry. I just don't see it. I see effort. I see organization. I see freshness. I see excitement. And I can't wait to see more.

As for the restaurant reviews...

A reviewer is no good to me if they are not willing to speak the truth. If someone where to go to every restaurant in the World and say "they were all amazing" and didn't have ONE problem... I would say they were not telling the truth. I want to know the good AND the bad. The team does that and does it VERY well. You get the good, bad, and ugly.

That said, I also want the reviewer to understand that at times their own review might be influenced by their moods. Which the team does as well. I think it was Pete's review of MNSSHP that showed this well.

These two statements summarize exactly what I was trying to say...love the video podcast and happy that they have evolved the show to the point where they can do them, it just means that for ME they aren't as convenient as they used to be because I feel that the audio only show does not really capture the essence of the show...do I want them or expect them to change for a handful of people who find it hard to watch the video/live feed on the day of release and go back to the old way? Of course not...just as the crew as evolved in the way they record the shows we are just having to adapt to a new way of listening/watching them

I have been listening to the Discast for a long time and a member of the Dis since 2001. I have tried other podcast along with the Dis and everytime those have gone away and and Dis remains.

I am not gonna ask for anything from the FREE podcast i am listening to and if I ever don't enjoy it I will just stop listening and try another FREE podcast.

I think they should just have cocktails (or pooped coffee drinks) during the show

Can't wait to hear T host next week

Seriously guys, you have brought much joy into many lives. No one can please everyone

Thanks for a great year

It's funny I'm the opposite I like the audio version better and rarely watch the video version unless it is something video heavy like a trip report or the 7 in 7 shows. I don't really need to see the pictures they put up with the news well they are talking about it. From time to time I will even just watch the extra videos being talked about on the show. But either way I still like the podcast and still listen and occasionally watch it. Keep up the great work guys.

I have only been a listener since last spring, so I will not claim familiarity with the days of old, but boy do I wish I knew about the podcast years ago. I look forward to finding time to go back and listen to older episodes when I am able, but for now I listen to new or more recent episodes while I'm commuting or on long drives. Occasionally I miss something due to it being intended for video, but as others have said, I can always look online later.

Personally I love the ins, outs, the good, the bad, and the ugly when dissecting Disney parks - wdw specifically - and I can tell around here that I am certainly not the only one! Many aspects - glossy and not so glossy - interest me. You can be passionate about something yet still critique it. Or even be bored by it when it grows stale, which is entirely reasonable. If, for example, John and Kevin were faux amped about Food & Wine, it would bleed insincerity. I love that they tell it like it is from their perspective, and I miss them when they are absent. I have never heard any negativity solely for the sake of negativity. If I did, they would quickly lose me as a listener. I want the honesty from the team, because I respect and admire them, and I believe they're all greatly invested in the product and the listeners. I enjoy the varying dynamics, and I do frequently laugh out loud while listening. Granted I'm a newbie, but I've become such a fan that I get pumped just hearing the intro music... Sure that's pretty geeky, but I'll wear that badge with pride.

I frequently find myself daydreaming about what it must be like to have such a tremendous job. And I certainly think they do a tremendous job at it, at that. Keep up the good work, team!!

Ditto! I am jealous everyday and regardless of the podcast changing over time I am grateful for that little glimpse of Disney that they give me every week while I work my boring job at home. Love the team :goodvibes
