We cruised earlier this month and were woken in the middle of the night to a code being issued through the full ship speak systems (in the room/halls, etc.)

The code was "bright star" and a stateroom was referenced.

Does anyone know what that code means?

It means medical assistance is needed.

It's any emergency.

I was under the impression that different emergencies have different codes, based on a thread here some time back.

Having a generic code would be a very bad idea. You would be sending potentially unprepared crew members into a situation. If there is a fire, you want the responders to know that they need to prepare for firefighting. If it is a medical emergency, there is no reason for fire crews to respond.

Each cruise line uses their own codes however, in this case it is a medical emergency code.

We were told when being awoken by a BrightStar in our room, that it was an error, as it's only supposed to be broadcast to cast/crew, not pax... apparently during emergencies, they occasionally hit the wrong button, and wake up the whole ship!
