Bright star announcement in room

On a recent cruise, they made a "Bright Star" announcement shipwide, including our stateroom. It was around 11 o'clock at night. Our 3 kids were asleep and luckily stayed asleep through the announcement. I know what the announcement means, but why would they announce it in the staterooms that late at night?

Because someone may well be dying and they don't have time to go running around to find all the medical staff they need and that one announcement gets everyone to the medical bay as fast as is possible?

We had it once on a cruise - a child in the next room stopped breathing, While I helped the parents, DW called the ship emergency number, and immediately there was a "Bright Star" announcement with the stateroom number of the endangered child ("Bright Star in cabin 1234"). We were in a cabin near the Captain's quarters, he showed up immediately, and medical personnel were there just about as quickly. They all descended on the room, and took excellent care of the child. End of story, all was well, perhaps thanks to the immediate emergency help.

This. If it saves someone, I wouldn't care if it woke up all 3 of my kids at 3 in the morning or whatever whenever. They do what they need to do to help ASAP.

They announce it in the staterooms because it is an emergency and if the proper ship staff is in a room (tending to a non emergency like child throwing up or just checking in on a complaint) then they know exactly where to go with out any confusion or having to track that officer or medic down.

That's the explanation that makes sense to me; that staff might be in another room at the time and they need to get those people elsewhere.

I've seen this happen on multiple cruises and it is always in the middle of the night. It will definitely get your attention, which is the point. Minor inconvenience for what is a very serious situation. With time of the essence, might as well broadcast it to every square inch of the ship right away.

We had this on our last cruise. It went off after 1:00am and while it woke us up, we did fall back asleep quickly. I asked about it the next day and was told there was a medical emergency. Hopefully, it all worked out for those involved.

Bright Star is medical emergency - what is the code term for when people (refugees?) are trying to board from a boat from the side of the moving ship . . . ??

Are bright star announcements preceded with the normal announcement tone or is it different for those?

On our 10/14 Dream cruise they made a Brightstar announcement followed by a Bravo, Bravo, Bravo and the cabin number. I always thought Bravo was fire, so Brightstar must add urgency to any response?

And if you hear Red Party, that is a fire on board. We have had 2 Red Parties in 18 Disney cruises. One was at about 3:00 am and the announcement did come in the rooms.

What do they announce if it's something that guests are required to take action or is it just a 'battle stations' tone?

If it ever gets to that point there's a few more announcements before the guest are required to anything.
If you've ever been on a ship for a crew drill you would have heard them...
