Bridging the Gap

So its done - we have booked OKW for 7/25-7/31. Our UY is Aug, so I was able to use all of my 2012 but had to borrow most of my 2013, which wasn't a big deal to me since Aug is just the next day. However, we have been thinking of extending our stay 3 more days and I am trying to figure out how we can bridge the gap for the night of 7/31 - I know that MS wont allow me to borrow 2014 pts for that night, just for the Aug nights. Has anyone been in this situation, or do you have any suggestions? It's just literally that one night that I need to figure out as beginning 8/1 I can borrow 2014 pts for the next 2-3 nights. We are happy to do a split stay - whatever we have to do!

We are bringing my DH's DD11 and his DN12 - both are first timers and birthday girls! I don't want to be rushed and since we have no way of knowing when we will get them both back together, I want to stretch this out as long as we can. Any thoughts, ideas and advice is appreciated - thanks! :goodvibes

Can you drop the 25th, and use those points for the 31st? Then you can borrow the 2014 points for August 1....

I had thought of that, but the flights we can get are only 212 rt based on the departing Thur...however, that may work if the cost of changing that doesn't exceed what it would cost us to bridge the gap. I will go check that out! Thanks!

If 24 is not enough, I would pay cash for 1 night or rent points.

I'm assuming I can only borrow 2014 points, correct? There's no borrowing for 2015 in 2013?

Correct. You can borrow your 2014 points for a stay between 8/1/2013 & 7/31/2014, but NOT 2015 points.

Another option would be to rent the night of 7/31/2013. But my first choice would be to buy one time use points if that would work because then MS could combine everything and make the reservation look like one continuous reservation, so no getting new keys in the middle of your vacation & no changing of rooms..

How many points do you have left in 2013? 7/31 in an OKW 2 bedroom will cost 40 points. You can buy 24 one time points from MS for $15 each. So if you have 16 points left in 2013, you could borrow those into 2012 and pay for 7/31 that way.

Then hopefully, you will have enough in 2014 to pay for the rest of the nights you want to add to your trip.

Hope it works out for you.

we have 16 points left for 2013, so we would need just the 24 we could buy from MS! I will check it out with the DH and see if 360 is doable - we would need to consider the DDP we intend to add but the flights wont change much if we leave on that Fri instead of Wed. It just seems with 2 girls who have never been, even and extra 2 nts/3 days would be so needed. I'm just afraid we wont get to relax and enjoy our resort as much as I would like.

of course, if we go back to what Bill said, and change my arrival to the 26th thereby allowing my 2013 points to cover 7/31, I would only have to buy 20 pts to cover the 136 I will need to cover 8/1-8/3! And the flights wont change but a few dollars pp. Do you all think the 300 it will cost for the 5 of us is worth the extra 2 nts/3 days? Plus the DDP of 55 pp/pd?

Where would I find this info, on the process and how much it costs?

Obtain One time use points

You need to call member services. It states "One-time-use vacation points cannot be applied retroactively to existing reservations." You may need to cancel and rebook including the new date, assuming there is still availability.

I think the one time use point would be the way to go, for a week night in a 2 bedroom unit a cash outlay of $360 seems reasonable rather than having to change a lot of other plans.

Agreed! :-) Thanks! Now to see if they will allow me to use them for this same reservation or if I will have to do a split stay with a new reservation. It seems that there's a 2 bedroom available right at OKW straight through...yay!
