I have heard of people buying tickets and upgrading to AP and only paying the difference once you get an AP.....

So help me with this please cause my husband is considering becoming an AP. We bought the 5day salute ticket. He still has 1 more day left on the ticket. Can he upgrade to an AP pass and only pay the difference and if he can would would that AP take effect? Would it be from the first day he used his salute ticket or would it take place starting the day of having his AP?

Yes, he can, but there is no advantage to starting with a Salute ticket when you do this. He will only get the price of the Salute ticket toward the cost of the AP. It won't bridge to gate price.

And the AP would expire a year from the first day he used the Salute ticket.

Thank you. That stinks from the aspect of the start date but good to know.

That's how it works when you bridge any ticket to an AP. It makes it as if you had purchased the AP from the start.

Yep, but a big difference with the salute tickets is that the first date of use could have been many months ago. With a regular ticket, it would have been at most 14 days ago.

But ultimately all an AP gives you is a year (barring some sort of special promotion). Same thing here. Bridging allows you to go back in time and buy an AP instead of whatever other sort of ticket you bought. But it should still be good for a year from first use.

I completely agree! I was just saying that with a Salute ticket, you could use the first day on January 1, and the last day on December 19. So when considering whether the upgrade to an AP is worth it for the holder of such a ticket, they need to consider how much of that "year" is already "gone", if you used the first day months ago. With a regular ticket, the maximum consideration is two weeks.

The part of the equation that's missing in the above (and it can be HUGE) is "number of days in the park."
