Ok -- we've been looking at bridesmaid dresses and I've noticed some with small trains. For the ceremony, I think this will be fine. However, do you think it would be a pain for the dessert party and reception as far as dancing and moving around? I'm pretty sure the dress would get fairly dirty unless there is a small bustle and I'm not sure if that would look weird. Any ideas??

My Maid of Honor's dress has a small train. We are going to put a small bustle in it. It's shouldn't be expensive as it would probably only need one dart. I'm bustling my dress too. It would be such a pain worrying about other people stepping on it or it constantly dragging the ground.

Hello,
I was a bridesmaid in a wedding where the dress had a small train. We didn't have a bustle and the dress became very annoying at the reception. People kept stepping on it on the dancefloor. Overall, unless there is a bustle, I would not recomment getting bridesmaid dresses with a train. At another wedding, the bride specifically asked that the train be altered out of the dress (she also stood up to the previous wedding) when the dresses were hemmed and that worked great.

;)

I was MOH in a wedding where our dresses had a small train/'sweep'. As the previous poster said it was fine until the cocktail hour and reception, then it was totally annoying. Other people kept stepping on it no matter what you did. Then when it was time for dancing, you had to hold the dress up a bit otherwise you were stepping on it yourself. I would definitely NOT reccommend getting bridesmaids dresses with a sweep/train.

My Bridesmaids all had little trains...BUT they had an EASY do-it-yourself way to bustle them afterwards. My mom attached little plastic rings at different areas and ran a ribbon through them, after the ceremony and pics they all just pulled on the ribbon and tied a bow! It was so easy and very beautiful! They all looked SO beautiful for the wedding and not one complaint about the trains! Good luck! :goodvibes

Of the 5 girls, 2 had a button put on to bustle it, 2 didn't and 1 was stupid and hemmed the whole thing off (never even asked me) but it wasn't a problem for them (mine was bustled and I was the one having the problem...doh)

I'm anti train for a BM due to my last experience as a BM... we didn’t have a full train but a sash that was long and swept the ground (literally cleaning up as we walked)....ugh...who ever decided that looked cool didnt see how black it was at the end of the night...foot prints galore....i almost feel over backwards twice...and worst part was DH was the biggest culprit ...

If you go for one make sure they bustle up...esp if lots of dancing is going on

My girls had a small train on thier dress. It worked out fine. They had it down for the ceremony and then there was a single hook for them to pull it up during the reception and dessert party. No one complained about them.

you can kind of see it in these pictures:

Thanks everyone for your replies! Now, my question turns to whether we should bustle it or just alter it, taking the train out all together. The dress comes with a small train and sash. If we alter the train, do you think it would look weird with a shorter sash? If we bustle it, I think we will just make the sash into more of a bow in the back during the reception so it won't drag.

Here's the website for the dress --- we are looking at style 966. (Near the bottom corner on the right hand side underneath the picture, you can click the alternate view to see the back).

Yeah I would definately do the bustle. I love the small trains for bm dresses.

My 8th grade dress had a small train and all night people were stepping on it and I had holes in it by the end of the night lol.

I find that BM dresses with trains are very popular because they look very elegant, but your concern is definately legitimate. We almost always bustle BM dresses that have sweep trains at my store. Most of them can be done very easily with a single over-bustle, so it shouldn't be very expensive.
