I just read in Jackie's trip report that Randy doesn't edit photos...this is the first that I've heard about it. Can anyone who has had him chime in? I've seen a lot of his work with what looks like edited photos, do you have to pay extra for editing? I'm using him in a few weeks and wanted to know if I need to book an extra editing package.

It depends on the package that you get I think...My engagement shots he edited like 15 pictures. The number of pictures he edits depends on the size of the package. I would just ask him if he is going to edit any images with what you are purchasing.

I don't really think this is true. I booked him for 7 hours of photography. He edited some of my e-pics, but none of my wedding pictures.

Well I am just going off of his packages. I am not ordering prints so I did not even think of it that way. I think that what we need to be asking is does randy apply his edits to prints?

I know he does the digital edits I know I got those for my engagements but again I did not get prints I edited my own or printed my own or both

Heh--- I am not trying to be argumentative, but I didn't get any prints either: just digital images. I feel like it must just be the luck of the draw, and he must not always edit.

Hmmm interesting.....like I said I was going off the pricing sheet that I saw and for each package the number of edited images went up. So I guess I am just not sure and it would have to be a question for him then...?

Where did you see the pricing sheet that listed # of edits? When I booked him a year ago I did not see any info on # of edits. I also didn't see any info on pakages with prints, just a CD. Do you have a link?

Jilian sweetie
It depends what you mean by editing. If you mean the enhancements (colour enhancing, special effects etc.) he did quite a few of mine (both the VR and TTd photos) and I didn't ask for any special editing treatments. Any shot he edited, he also supplied unedited on the CD.
If by editing, you mean ensuring everything is spot on, I think he did all of them as they all seemed to be of excellent quality!!
I replied to this topic on Jackie's TR and have copied what I said below (too lazy to compile it again - what a terrible admission that is!!!!)

I cannot understand the editing thing at all!! We got plenty of photos edited (and copies of any edited photos in their unedited form), and a sneak peek posted on his blog. We didn't ask for, or pay extra for any of these things. I did tell Randy to take his time with our photos, and didn't rush him at all (not that I think you did), but I think it all depends how much time he feels he has to work on the photos. I have heard him say that sometimes he feels under great pressure to get photos out to brides. Maybe his editing all depends on how busy things are for him. This is no excuse, of course, and he should maybe firm up with brides what they want, maybe explaining that if they want their photos quickly, less editing may get done

It does seem a bit hit and miss. I had some enhanced photos but not loads.

I had some enhanced photos from Randy. I did not ask or pay extra for them. I actually asked him the opposite..I did not want too many over enhanced/edited pictures...but he ALWAYS supplies the original with the edited version. I had him for 4 hours and he is GREAT!!!

I booked him for 7 hours and got a ton of edited (with a CD of originals) shots. I guess it's the luck of the draw. I had email conversations with him about how I wanted my pictures to look. We went with a very photojournalistic style as opposed to the traditional wedding pictures which I did not want. He suggested poses, shots and set ups and I was very pleased with the end result. Out of all my girl friends weddings, I feel like my pictures show the fun and candid side more than the typical traditional shots. He did a great job!

Speak with him, that's the only way you'll know what he does and doesn't do. He's super nice and easy going.

I did the same thing. We talked a few times before the wedding about the style I liked and I sent him some sample shots/enhancements that I liked. I also said I wanted more enhancements rather than prints that came with my package. I probably received around 20-30 enhancements. I also purchased the Aperture software for Macs that lets you do a lot of enhancements yourself.

Aside from the enhancements, you can notice in several of my photos that he did edit them. Whether softening the background or blurring something/someone out of the image a little there are edits in several of the non-enhanced photos.

I personally am not a fan of edited photos for the most part. There is nothing wrong with the style, it just is not me. So when I set up my contract with Randy I told him that I didn't want edits - and we were also hoping to save a little bit of money. Randy's site did mention a certain number of edits in each package at the time that we booked him. So in the end, the majority of our pictures were unedited, but he did also throw in a few edited ones for us as well. So short answer, yes he did do some editing.

Randy did some edits for us in 2010 as well. He included the unedited ones on the cds. We didn't get any prints from him, just the CDs Just ask him, he is very nice!

This is something that I have always wondered. Randy was our photographer in December of 2010 and I just assumed that we would get at least a few edited pictures back. I was really disappointed to not find any on the disks. However, I will say that this was the only thing that I wasn't 100% happy with. Randy was very professional and took some amazing photos that we will cherish forever.

This is a great thread! We just got our engagement pictures taken yesterday, and I'm anxious to see the results.

Thanks for all this information. We are talking to Randy about shooting our wedding in April 2013 and you have brought up good things to ask him about that I didn't think of. Thanks!
Overall it seems like everyone was happy with what Randy did for them, am I right?

Can I just ask, for those of you that used Randy, how long did it take to get your pics after the wedding?

I had my pictures within 3 and a half weeks! I did, however, get married in January, which isn't busy season.
