I was just reading some reviews over on the Resort board about the GF. Seems like some people have had issues with the front desk being rude. One poster even mentioned that she was getting married at the WP, to which the lady at the front desk said she didn't care.
We're wanting to stay at the GF for 2 nights, one being our comped night. Then move to the BW. I'm just wondering what type of experiences you've had staying at the GF the night of your wedding? What type of service did you receive, and I'm not talking about upgrades...just general attitude from the staff. I've never stayed at the GF before, but have always wanted to. And I'd hate to run into problems on such a wonderful day just because someone at the front desk has an attitude.

Help reassure me!! :scared:

Hi there. We stayed at the Grand in December and had a nice experience overall. We ran into 1 gentlemen at the Concierge Desk 2 times who wasn't rude persay but seemed kind of annoyed. We were greeted in the parking lot by name and everything. We also had about 4 reservations because we were staying for 2 weeks. We had 1 reservation for our 1st two nites, then 1 ressie for our comp nite, then one for 2 more nites under Disney Fairy tale Weddings, and 1 for 8 nights thru a travel agent. Well, there was a mix up with the last ressie because it was booked under my maiden name and all the rest were under my husbands name as the primary person on the ressie. Well, they never linked that reservation properly and charged my husband $1900 on his credit card (well about that) for a room that was already paid. We are still waiting to receive $1350 of it back and this was a month ago. Anyways, i don't think for 2 nites under Disney Fairy Tale Weddings you will have any problems. And even though we had that really big screw up with the room, everyone tried very hard to fix it and they were all very nice.

No worries, i think no matter where you go there is always that one cast member who isn't happy. I think we should start reporting those people and maybe there will start to be less and less of them!

Have A Disney Day!!!

Hi Darling-

That poster you mentioned was me.

Outside of the ____ at the front desk, our service was amazing. The concierge staff was at there to meet and exceed our every need. We needed scissors and tape to finish wrapping gifts- he had it there in 10 minutes (and I knew he was runnign arund for them becuase he was out of breath). I wanted water for the room for getting ready- she brought up two bottles of Evian, glasses, an ice bucket, and lemon. I asked where John Stamos  was staying and the answered...coyly, but they answered!

Besides, the honeymoon turrets at the GF are incredible. Request 4421 if you can- you can fall asleep and wake-up looking at the castle! It was wonderful to be in the main building. It made it so easy for photographs. Everyone on our floor was so sweet and supportive. We hung a "We're getting married" poster on the door. Everyone congratulated us, etc. beforehand. When I came out of the room in my dress the day of the wedding, people in our lounge (we were on the food level!) stood up and starting clapping and cheering. Additionally, it made eating while getting ready easy... we all just kind of grazed on the snack offerings all day.

I wouldn't trade our experience at the GF for anything. It brings tears to my eyes just thinking about the beauty of the room and the level of care we did receive. The ___ at the desk was just that. If they give you a problem, ask to see a manager.

Thanks!! That makes me feel sooo much better!! I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with that one at the front desk. At least everything else was great!! I can deal with the possiblility of one bitter person. Thanks again. :flower3:

My fiance and I are getting married at the WP on August 11th, but we are staying at the GF August 7th through the 13th. We are having an intimate wedding at the WP and we were not comped a night at all. Is that only for custom weddings?

We also had a bad experience checking in at the GF for our wedding stay. The staff was horribly rude and they actually made me cry, it was such an upsetting event :( I don't want to go into details because it makes my blood boil just thinking about it, but the end result was my husband and I did not even get a king bed for our stay (we had 2 small queens). Not an auspicious start, but luckily our wedding day was perfect, rude staff at the GF notwithstanding. My husband and I will never stay at the GF ever again. They truly did not care about our wedding day one iota.

Jennifer

I'm not sure...someone correct me if I'm wrong...but I think the comp night is just for custom weddings. It's because you have a certain about of rooms to fill by guest and it's only comped one night.

Wow...Snow White...I'm sorry about your experience!! That's exactly what I'm worried about. I guess they are just soooo accustomed to seeing brides at the GF. But gosh, it's a special time for each of us!!! At least I might have some warning...and I'm not past calling it to the attention of a manager and being rude myself. Not for as much as it cost to stay there...because I certainly don't have to!!!

We will never stay there again! Horrible service,we stayed in the main building. We had such a bad time that we are going on another honeymoon.Beautiful place but in my opinion it was a huge waste of money.

We stayed at the Grand Floridian for the first half of our honeymoon (our first night was our comped night). We received wonderful service and found the staff to be very helpful. Try not to worry too much about any bad reviews you read. Everyone has an opinion, and you just have to stay there and form your own. For instance, we had read lots of bad reviews of the Royal Palm Club concierge level at the GF before staying there, but I knew that’s where I wanted to stay so we did it anyway. We absolutely loved it and had a great stay!

Let me also warn you that some people get upset with the Grand Floridian for not doing “special” things for them since they are getting married at WDW. Some people expect automatic upgrades, guaranteed king beds, rooms with a view of the castle, champagne waiting in the room, etc. While the GF is *sometimes* able to provide these things to Disney brides, it is not guaranteed at all. All you are guaranteed for your comp night is a standard room at the resort. While Disney wants to keep its guests happy, they can’t possibly upgrade everyone or give everyone a room that overlooks the castle. I’m not saying there aren’t legitimate complaints (there certainly are), but sometimes people get angry just because their requests weren’t granted.

Disney certainly looks at its brides as special, but there are TONS of brides and honeymooners there at any given time.

Yes, the comped night is only for custom weddings.

we stayed at the GF for our wedding night and had a nice time. the staff was really nice to us. we forgot our toothbrushes. when i went to the store to get the toothbrushes, the lady at the counter kindly told me to call room service and they'll send the toothbrushes up to my room for free! GF leaves a nice little note on your bed when you arrive. the room we stayed at didn't have a great view, but on your wedding night, does the view matter? *wink* overall, we had a nice time staying at the GF for our wedding night. i think it made our night even more special to stay there.

We also stayed at the GF for our comp night and were treated like gold by everyone. The only rude person I encountered was in the Sandy Cove gift shop.

We stayed at the GF for our honeymoon in 2004 and we were treated like royalty! We did not encounter anyone rude...quite the opposite, they couldn't do enough for us. We went back for our first anniversary - got upgraded from Lagoon View to a turret room in the RPC, and were treated even BETTER than we had been for our wedding...if that's possible!! I requested champagne be sent to our room (I expected to pay for it, of course), but they sent a complimentary bottle, along with chocolate covered strawberries. We certainly did NOT expect an upgrade and that made it even more special.

We are returning this February for our 2nd anniversary, as it seems to us there is no place better.

My best friend and I have noticed that a lot of people expect comp. upgrades and special treatment when they go to WDW and when they don't happen, they think Disney let them down. So ANNOYING!!!! Create some of your own magic at WDW and the rest will fall into place, especially at a resort like the GF!!!

Thanks everyone...I'm not expecting or hoping for an upgrade. I've just heard of people having rude encounters when checking in. I just didn't want to deal with attitude on such a happy day. I'm just happy to be staying there and don't really care what type of room it is. I can't imagine a room there being bad. It sounds like it's been a pretty good mix of bad and good check in experiences. I'll just hope that everyone working has had a good day! :cool1:
