bride/groom ears---truth or rumor?

We're taking our HM to WDW in Sept and I would like to know more about the ears! :)

I've been told that if you buy the bride/groom Mickey ears you get discounts and/or perks in some of the parks and WDW restaurants. Is this true?

Along that same line, I was told that the ears you purchase at the parks do not work for this and that they sell different Just Married ears only at the Grand Floridian. Does anyone know?

Thanks for your help. We are planning to get the ears anyway, but if you get perks too, all the better. But I'm just not sure if it's a rumor.

Oh, is there a place I can order them from or do I have to pick them up once we get there?

They sell the bride and groom ears at the Grand Floridian. They are the ones that will get you the discounts.

Yes, there are perks, but I have been told to not "expect" them. I believe it all depends on ride operators, servers, etc. some people say that they will get glasses, special logs to yourself on log rides, etc. It varies, but I have not heard anything about special just married ears. Most people just get the regular ones. I have found that they are cheaper in the parks, so I am waiting until I get there, but if you are excited, they sell them on ebay.

when I say regular ones, I am talking about the black one with the top hat and the white one with the veil. when you wrote about special ones, I immediately pictured ones that actually said "just married" on them.
Sorry if I confused you!

I've seen brides and grooms get the traditional Mickey ears and have 'Just' stiched onto one hat, and 'Married' stiched on the other. It's very cute.

Whichever hats you wear, you shouldn't go in expecting perks. We wore the hats on our honeymoon, and the 'perks' varied depending on our server, the ride attendant etc. Really, the most fun of wearing the ears were all the congratulatons we got from other people in the parks, at the hotels, etc. It was very much fun, and any free desserts we got we just extra special.

I didn't know anything about perks. This year was the first time we saw people with the wedding ears on. I thought they were so cute that while we were at MK and DH asked me if I would like to marry him again at WDW, I went and got those ears for us before even saying yes. lol! They are the cutest things.

lilpritch,
I just wanted to say that I LOVE your dress!

I've heard of some people gettting little perks, and others nothing at all. As long as you don't EXPECT to get perks, you wont be dissapointed. Wear them just to have fun and see what happens!

Hey, maybe I'll see you in September!

OK first off there are no special Grand Floridian ears.

There is one type for men which is the Top hat and then 2 types for the Bride - headband or the little beanie hat both with veils. You can get thes at a lot of the shops in the parks, resorts and at Downtown Disney.

Next - I've never heard of discounts at all.

Perks - yes you MAY get them BUT do NOT expect them I've read many a story of a bride who was disappointed because they didn't get "special" treatment. Like Helen said we loved all the Congratulations that we got from the other guests and park visitors and that alone made us feel very special. That said we did get some perks e.g. announcements, table decorations, best table in the house, free desserts etc but we never expected any of that treatment - it was all a big bonus to our very special honeymoon.

Like Sam said, it's a treat when you get the "perks" but they are not a given just because you have the ears on. Some cast members go out of their way making you feel special and it's great. I loved all the comments from the other guests, thats what made our wedding/honeymoon at Disney so special.

We were lucky and got lots of "perks", the best being the Grand Marshalls in the MK parade.

Thanks!! We're not expecting anything, I was just wondering if it was true or not as there are people DH works with that keep telling him all of this stuff.

Merandab4--maybe we will see you there. We will have our ears on and DH is 6'9" so he'll be even harder to miss with groom ears!

Thanks again,

Hey lilpritch04, I will be celebrating my honeymoon in Sept also. Sept 19-26 at POR.

I don't know if FI will wear the ears, but I might try and see what I can do. I will be looking out for them though.

We bought the ears when we were down for our honeymoon in Sept 2002. Like the other posters said you can't go expecting to get any perks. We did get couple of passes given to us to jump ahead in line (IASW and SW) but it was so quiet that day we didn't need them (only valid for that day.

The host on the Jungle Cruise made a big deal of our ears - it was so embarrassing!! Oh and the Dapper Dans came to talk to us before the parade and were asking about the ears.

We didn't get any desserts or anything but so many people and CM said Congrats! Oh and Mickey gave us a special autograph at the rehitchin ceremony at the Garden Grill!

we wore the ears (well, we made our own actually) but went in expecting nothing whatsoever. we received attention from CM's and other park guests...a few things here and there...but what was most fun for us was when we were at MGM. we were watching the parade and as each car came by, the characters would point us out and offer congrats to us! there were some other things here and there, but for the most part, we really enjoyed the congrats we would get from other people!

i would echo what others have said...don't go in expecting anything. that way, if a little extra pixie dust is sprinkled in your direction, you'll be surprised!

btw...i LOVE your dress!!! it looks similar to the one i liked a few years ago for my wedding! it didn't look quite right on me when i tried it on, so i ended up with something much different. but it looks spectacular on you!!!

We wore the bride and groom ears for our honeymoon as well.

The perks we received were very generous: Free Fast Pass tickets (which enabled us to carry 3 tickets at a time), free dessert and confetti at Liberty Tree Tavern, another dessert at Coral Reef, and other stuff I can't remember!

As someone else mentioned, go expecting nothing and you won't be disapointed. The perks given depends on when you're visiting, and what Cast Memebers you come across. We went the last two weeks in December. The first week is when we got all the perks. The second week was Christmas which is a busy time for cast members, so they don't have time to notice honeymooners. Which is understandable.

Haven't heard of anyone getting "discounts" from wearing the hats. The Wilderness Lodge upgraded our room upon checking in, but we weren't wearing our hats. We got the free upgrade because "Honeymooners" was written on our ressies months before our trip. Again, I can't garuntee the same thing will happen to someone else who has it written on their reservations. Depends on the cast member present.

Hope you have a magical time!

lilpritch,

When are you going on your honeymoon in Sept? We are going to be there from the 15th until the 25th, getting married on the 18th...same day as Meranda my wedding twin...

Oh yes we were upgraded to a room with a King size bed.

I know there have been posts on this before but is it appropriate to wear the ears when celebrating an anniversary or an engagement?????? Dh and I will be celebrating our 4 year anniversary and friends that will be with us might become engaged;) An feedback would be helpful. Thank you

There are no "rules" about wearing those ears... wear em if you want and enjoy yourselves. I always try to say congrats to anyone in the ears... no matter what they are celebrating.

Me and my wife went on our honeymoon may2-7. We wore the wedding hats and we got so much attention. We rode space mountain 3 times in a row and then recieved passes. We rode splash mountain 2 times, the second in our own log, we also recieved passes. We went straight to the front at Thunder Mountain and many other perks in the parks. At resturants we got a dessert here and there. And we also got our room upgraded at our hotel with rose petals spread over the bed, and we also got a free boat rental. We had such a magical time.

We are honeymooning in September as well. The 13-23rd at the BC and Polynesian. Congrats to all the other September Disneymooners!
