What sort of items have you seen given at bridal showers?
Any suggestions? It is for my really good friend and her relatives are throwing her the shower, so nothing risky. Plus, she is on the conservative side.
Also, she does not live here, so no spa certificates and such.

****My friend lives in Irvine, CA. so if anyone knows of any good places there that I could get her a gift certificate for, that might also work. Websites will be appreciated.

I got a really good friend of mine a gift certificate to a local spa. She got a facial, massage and something else. I think when the wedding planning gets hectic that a little "me" time can do wonders.

I was at a wedding shower about 2 weeks ago. The bride and groom received many items that were on their gift registries. If you're not sure where they've registered, try to find if they have anything listed on theknot.com

They received items in a variety of price ranges, from simple picture frames, bath towels, bedding, kitchen accessories, pots, pans, her casual dinnerware, her formal dinnerware, her silverware, glassware, very nice toasting glasses for the wedding, etc.

I LOVE shopping for shower presents! (We typically give cash for weddings, as most brides/grooms we know are usually trying to save for their first home. Not a bad thing, but just don't get to go shopping!)

For their wedding gift, I will either get them something from their gift registry which they will register at soon, or money.
But for the bridal gift, I wanted to get the bride something for herself.

I always buy something off the registry for the shower.

For a close friend or relative, I also try to add something personalized, like a cross stitch sampler I have made or a personalized Christmas ornament. There are some great gifts available at www.personalcreations.com.

I always buy off the registry for showers and I really loved all of the gifts I got off my registry. Oddly enough too, I remember who gave me everything, so when I use something I think of that person. Even though the shower was for me, I never really thought that the gifts I received were all for me...I always thought of them as something for me and DH so the thought of receiving something all for me never crossed my mind.

For the most part, I always see items from the couple's registry (that info is usually included with the invite). Registries make it easy-you dont have to go crazy finding something, and the couple actually gets something they want...and need.

Thank you for those ideas.
Is there anyone that lives in or close to Irvine?

I live in Southern California, and Irvine has tons of stores in and around the city. It's very close to South Coast Plaza, which is an upscale mall that has a very nice and well stocked Macy's Home, Crate and Barrel, and Williams-Sonoma. I would get a GC to one of those places.

I have a professional pottery studio. Many people love giving a hand-thrown pottery bowl I made on the wheel. They often get a serving bowl like a pasta or large salad bowl or a pair of handmade goblets with a beautiful glaze. Since thse are one of a kind presents, there is no fear of duplicate items being given. And the pieces are not expected to have to match the rest of the dinnerware. The fact that they are unique makes the bowls a show piece to displayby itself. People love pulling them out & using them for special occasions. :flower:

Registry for the shower gift and always cash for weddings around here..you never see anyone giving an actual gift at a wedding around here..but of course that is all regional.
