I am in favor of doing very simple one or two games at showers... I am not a stick in the mud but I just may have been to too many showers that were almost ruined by far too many games....

People seem to like the clothespin game.. where you steal one anothers clothes pins, the winner has the most by the end of the shower.
Fact or Fiction... ?s regarding the grand parents, mom, father and baby are asked .. sometimes little known information or absurd information are given.. winner gets the most correct answers... also gets lots of giggles...

Have fun, enjoy your time with sister and congratulations Auntie!

OH LORDIE>>> I am so sorry.... I have BABY on the BRAIN and mixed up Bridal and Baby shower... LOL... so sorry... please excuse!!! very tired grandma here.... so sorry!!!

White Game-Since weddings are about the color white, put different white powders and such into baggies and have each person write down what they think it is. You could put-sugar, salt, baking powder, cornstarch, potato startch, flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar in those bags. Number each bag, and have them passed around to each person. Each person would write down one guess per bag, and the winner would get a prize.

I agree with Mamajoan...keep it simple. I prefer no games, but of course I do paticipate when necesary. Just dont do anything where people are put on the spot. Some people dont like to be the center of attention in front of a large crowd of people, most of whom they dont know. :D

During the gift opening, you can set a timer to go off every 5 or so minutes and the person who gave the gift that is currently being opened by the bride when the timer goes off receives a small prize. The prizes can be small candles, mugs, picture frames, etc.

I recently went to a shower were the played bridal bingo. It was something everyone really enjoyed.

What they did was make up sheets with common wedding gift names. Of course each sheet was a little different. As the bride opened her gifts you would mark of an item if you had it on your sheet.

this game was fun easy and something everyone could do and not fell uncomfortable.

i'm not a big fan of bridal shower games myself (didn't want any at mine) but I have put together quite a few.

If you'd like - I have a bunch of bridal bingo sheets already made up - PM me your email address and I'll email them to you. (What you can do is either have the bride pull a piece of paper out of hat with that item on it, or have people cross the item off if she recieves it as a gift (a bit trickier). (With larger showers, you can have multiple winners and this sometimes turns into a huge 3-ring circus...so be prepared.)

Another one is whoever's anniversary (or birthday for the single ladies) is closest to the bride's wedding day gets a prize.

A cute one is to send out a recipe card with the shower invite to all the guest requesting a favorite recipe for the bride - then pull one and award a prize. - oh wait - scracth that, it's this weekend.

why not get a "memory" book and hand out little slips of paper to everyone...have them write down a thought or well wish for the bride to be for her married life...I've seen this done at baby showers and it's really cute! Read them aloud if you like.

I'm all about "minimal interaction" games. heheh

one REALLY funny one (which even I like) is kinda racey...as the bride is opening her gifts...write down the VERY FIRST thing that comes out of her mouth with each gift...Then read the list back to her afterwards (either with just the bridesmaids OR at least people that can handle some filth) and say "This is what "Sara" will say on her 'wedding night' with her husband:

Wow - this is so cool!
What is this used for?
I dont' know how to use this!
Dang this is heavy!

(when put in an off context - it can be funny - not really a GAME - but funny)

I shudder when I'm at showers and see the toilet paper come out...sheesh!

Bridal shower games?

I've never been to a shower with games and didn't have any at mine.

Is this a regional thing?

My sister's bridal shower was last month. We did bridal bingo and then just wrote her name and her fiance's name on the bottom of 2 of the cake plates and who ever received those plates won a prize. We kept it very simple as most people don't seem to like games that are too complicated.

One of the games they played at my bridal shower which I thought was fun and everyone had a blast with is to divide everyone up into teams of 3 or 4. Give each team a roll of toilet paper, some tissue paper and tape. One person is designated as the "model". Give them a certain amount of time to make a "wedding dress" on the model out of the toilet paper, tissue and tape. The bride gets to pick the best "gown"

Everyone had a ton of fun and it's amazing how creative people can be!

I think it really depends on the average age of those attending as to what type and how many games you play - also whether it is a close knit group or a bunch of strangers.

For my shower it was obviously a bunch of close knit friends and relatives to play a game like that. I wouldn't do it with a bunch of strangers

At my bridal shower, my matron of honor planned a game that I had never played before. She went online and got biographical information about a bunch of different famous and/or infamous women. She then put each famous woman's name and information on a large index card. Each guest was assigned a card, but was not allowed to look at it - it was taped to their back, so everyone else could see it. Everyone then had to ask the other guests questions, in order to try and guess who they were (i.e. Am I an actress? etc). I was Monica Lewinsky!

I just did the index card game at a shower andit was so much fun! I am not a huge fan of games but this one was fun and an ice breaker. I was Mick Jagger.

At my shower, one of the games was pin the tail on the donkey. :teeth:

Naked Twister! :hyper:

Wait, I'm thinking of the wrong thing. Sorry.

Funny you should ask this...I was just at a bridal shower where we played games, and I had never done that before.

We played Bridal Bingo. Instead of using wedding gifts in each bingo card square, they used things associated with a wedding (bride, bridal veil, groom, tuxedo, flowers, wedding gown, garter, bridesmaid, flower girl, ring bearer, ushers, mother of bride, mother of groom, father of bride, father of groom, church, reception, wedding ring...you get the idea), and it was a lot fo fun!

Then we played the wedding gown out of toilet paper game, which someone else explained already. I will say, they gave us 2 rolls of TP and we could have used 3. Thank God our "bride" was petite, or we would have been in toruble!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm hoping I can get some ideas from this thread too! My oldest daughter is getting married in september and since one of my other daughters is the maid of honor, I will be helping with the bridal shower plans.

Thanks from me too for all of your suggestions!!:D

One game that was played at mine was about who was most observant. Half way through the shower I walked out of the room and the guests were asked questions like "what color shirt was I wearing, was my hair up or down, was I chewing gum, etc". Obviously you don't tell the guests ahead of time about this game so you can catch them by surprise. I knew about it so I purposely did/wore some noticeble things along with some subtle things.

Wow! Thanks for all the great responses, this really helped me! I think I was having so much trouble because I dont like being singled out at showers and I didnt want to do that with my guests either. I dont know if games are a regional thing they have always been played at every Bridal and Baby Shower I have been to.

Mamajoan has the baby come yet??????

Thanks again!
Shannon
