I have no idea what their plans are in the future with them but I hope to renew ours when the time comes.....
The idea of a "renewal" fee for this long-abandoned project is new to me.
When first announced- and continued throughout the "program"- WDW stated that this was part of a walkway where guests could stroll "completely around the Seven Seas Lagoon." That info was even a part of the monorail spiel for years.
But even back then, it was apparent that if a continuous walkway around the lake was not physically impossible, it was certainly fiscally impractical.
On the "path" between the Grand Floridian and MK, there is a much used "inlet" of water which is where the "Electrical Water Pageant" barges are stored. That would require a new bridge to be constructed and that bridge would either have to be an expensive "drawbridge" (I know they CAN do that, there's one on the WS Lagoon in Epcot, near China and "Africa") to allow the use by the EWP barges and possibly other higher profile watercraft, or simply find another waterway area to store those barges, etc.
But that side of the "loop's" problems pale by comparison to the MK-to-TTC section of the walkway.
It would require a wide, safe foot-traffic lane that runs through the same "under-the-water bridge underpass" portal near the front of Contemporary.
Back before MGM and several new resorts were built far removed from the monorail lines (and necessitating the operation of MANY new bus routes), save for those guests who drove to the CR, this ugly, narrow passage, with its steeply-inclined approaches and many exposed pipes and conduits, was never seen by most guests... UNTIL WDW decided (wisely) to put the resort bus stops for MK over AT the MK front gates (and not at TTC).
After that decision, the idea of threading a guest walkway though this too-small and now VERY BUSY underpass was simply not feasible.
So now, the bricks that were purchased back when the "Walkway Around the World" project was still a "go" are still THERE (they ARE bricks, and in Florida's seldom-deep-frozen climate, they should last a very long time), and I don't foresee a need to remove them or, since the promised "walkway loop" is abandoned, charge anyone a fee to "renew" them when they "dropped the ball" on the promised project.
And yes, we DO have a brick.
Right near the TTC/MK lot's tram load/unload.
Its been trampled by millions of guests in that high-traffic location for over a decade... and remains in "new" condition.
So, until they can find my aforementioned "guy with a stick to flip 'em all over" (it was a joke, BTW)... I think the economics would dictate they just "keep 'em the way they are" for a long time to come.
All that said, we know Disney can change their corporate minds without notice and do whatever the heck they want.
