We're thinking of checking out this zoo when we return from our 7 day cruise in October. Just looking for peoples comments and how long we should plan on being there.

I lived in Melbourne for 13 years (now live just 30 mins. away closer to Orlando). You can see it in just a few hours. It's good--just not spectacular. Compared to other well known zoos--it IS small. They have been working on it for years now and it keeps growing. I know one of the ladies that is in charge of memberships out there and Jack Hanna really wanted to base himself out of there (he loves Melbourne) but they couldn't match what Busch gardens offered him (I think it was Busch Gardens and it was 2 years ago when she told me this!). Again--I like it--but you can do it in a few hours.
HTH!

You can definitely do this zoo in about half a day. We go every year when we go to Melbourne Beach for Thanksgiving. It is small, but nice and my kids (DD 6, DS 4) have always really enjoyed it.

The Brevard Zoo is one of my favorite zoos!!! It's very nice, clean and well laid out. The attention is on education. Take your time and really enjoy each exhibit, there's a lot to learn. The new African exhibit is fabulous. Feeding the giraffs by hand was quite an experience. It is a relatively small zoo but it has a lot to offer. We usually make a day out of it every year.
