Question about how you handled feedings. My first was formula fed, gave up bfing after a few days. My second was breastfed but we always went camping vacation wise so nursing times wasn't an issue.

I am not worried about finding a place to nurse him.

I am wondering what do you do as far as if you are out late past normal nursing times, etc?

For instance, Keegan nurses 6 times in a 24 hr session. Usually, 4-5 am, 8 am, 11 am, 2 pm, 5 pm, and then again 6:45-7 pm before bed.

We are on central time, so of course there will be an hour difference.

But I am wondering about the nights we are out say staying to watch Wishes then head back, I am sure I will have to nurse him before he goes down for the night.

Did you just go with the flow for your trip and then work on getting back on your normal breastfeeding type schedule once you were home?

Lucky for us we are going to have 4 adults and 1 baby on this trip, so we are going to stick with DD's nursing/sleep schedule. On the nights DH and I want to see fireworks etc, my parents will stay back with her while she sleeps and visa versa. It took us a long time to get a good solid schedule with DD and I don't want to mess it up for 1 week of vacation.
If I were you, I would stick to his schedule and then if you have to nurse him to sleep when you get home from the parks for bed then add a feeding. Good Luck and Have FUN!

Hmmm.....I'm not sure. Mine nursed until he was three years old, but we definitely never had any kind of a schedule at all. It was just strictly an "on demand" thing when he was a baby, and then as he got to be an older toddler, he would usually just nurse right before bed and first thing in the morning.

I would say nurse him when you usually do and let him fall asleep in the stroller, if he will, and then you can nurse him again when you get him back and ready for bed, if you need to. Mine always nursed to sleep. It was great. I miss it. :cloud9:

Mine always nursed on a 3hour schedule pretty much throughout the day. On days when the schedule would be disrupted I would nurse on demand. It was easier that way not to worry about the clock so much .. if that makes sense.

You and I both know your baby will tell you when they need to nurse. So if you normally nurse at *bedtime* but they arent going to bed at that time why not just offer a snack or just try to delay that last session until you will be back to your room for the night OR nurse if it will be a few more hours before bedtime and then nurse again .. hey maybe he will cut out the 4am feeding if you nurse him later in the evening!

mine always nursed on demand as well, but I say just go with the flow and nurse whenever, when you get back home you can get back on schedule. We took my DD for her 1st bday and she was scared on many of the rides, she just wanted to nurse during them for comfort, so we did that. I was actually worried before we went, she wouldn't nurse at home with any distractions at all, I had to be in a dark room lying down for her to nurse from about 8 months on. I nursed in so many peoples beds (friends and family), it was ridiculous. If we were out anywhere longer than 3 hours we would just have to go home because she wouldn't nurse, so I was really worried about nursing at WDW. But she wanted to nurse all the time, so it was fine! Everything is so different there, it can be very overwhelming for the little ones so I would say nurse him whenever he wants, he may need it to calm down and stop from getting overstimulated.

Thanks ladies!

I actually do feed him on demand and some days those times are a bit different. But roughly that is the schedule he has established for himself.

He also is getting one serving of solids a day. I am sure by the time we go to Disney at the end of April he will be on 2-3 servings of solids a day though.

I will just plan to go with the flow on what the little man wants.

Thanks again! :)

I had three kids and i was lucky enough to be able to brestfeed all of them. No schedule, i just was nursing them when and where they were asking for it. It was a wonderfull time and a wonderfull memory. Just enjoy it and have fun on your trip!

I took both of my children to WDW while they were nursing. My children were primarily on demand nursers. I did try to keep their schedules for naps and meals the same as at home (as much as I could) and let them nurse whenever they needed to. I would just try to keep your child's routine as normal as possible, while being prepared to go with the flow. That's the mindset I've always used and I have never had any trouble with my children at Disney.

Mine typically nursed more when we were on vacation (comfort and waking more at night and going to sleep later) than settled back into his normal when we returned home. If we were out late, he'd usually still nurse and fall asleep at his normal bedtime, but then I'd nurse him again when we'd return back to his actual bed. Just go with the flow... :thumbsup2

(Also, if it's hot, he'll probably want and need to nurse more frequently.)

I would say on demand is probably the way to go. He will be in a new environment and will probably get off his schedule. Most kids do on vacation. Just go with the flow and do what feels right.

As far as nursing him, I just did it where ever I needed to. I saw MANY nursing mom's on benches and in restaurants. Have a cover of some sort, be descret. It is hardly taboo anymore.

Have a great time!

Jackie

I nursed all 3 of my kids.

Just continue to nurse on demand. When he wants it, nurse. If he doesn't want it, don't worry. The scheduling might get a bit mixed up when you're on the go, but your milk supply is well established by this point, and the baby's old enough now that you can not stress about it.

Enjoy the trip.

He'll be thirsty if the weather is warmer that it is at home right now, expect demand.

I've found that when NIP in theme parks, the best clothing for me was a loose tank top under an opened button-up shirt. I'd just pull in the top via the armhole. That kept things discreet without having to bother with using a separate cover.
