Have you done your Self-Breast Exam this month?
Please remind your Loved ones, Friends and Family to do theirs. Early detection is the key.

Over three days this October, I will be walking 60 miles in the Tampa Bay Breast Cancer 3-Day. Over the next several months, I will be spending many hours in training and helping to spread the word about breast cancer awareness.

According to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, this year more than 200,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer. About 40,000 will die from the disease. They are not just statistics. They are people you know and love, your mothers, wives, sisters, children, and friends. In the United States today, there are more than two million breast cancer survivors. That's why I'm doing this – to make a difference in the battle against breast cancer.

The best thread ever...
We must all be aware don't put your exams off until tomorrow because we all want that tomorrow to come.

Thank you, Mom2Ashli. That is how Marie discovered her cancer, a monthly BSE. They literally can be the difference between life and death. Thanks for caring, Mom2Ashli.

My Aunt and I walk in the AVON walk a thon in NY :cool1:

My Grandma died of Breast Cancer over 30 years ago...She never made it to her 50th Birthday...

What a wonderful thread, thank you so much for bringing up this subject. I actually found my lump myself, at only 30 years old mind you. My doctor told me that had I not started treatment I had less than 6 months to live and yet I might not have even known without finding my lump. My 5 year anniversary from my diagnosis was just yesterday. I am still fighting and have chemo almost every other week (sometimes my counts mess things up), but I am so thankful that I’ve had these last 5 years with my family. My daughter had only turned 3 when I was first diagnosed and now she’s 8 - what a difference only 5 years can make. I tell my story again not to scare people, but to let you know that this does happen to people all the time. I had virtually no family history, no reason to be worried and I was very young. My breast cancer is also a very bad kind (not that any cancer is good, but mine is about as bad as it can be), it’s called Inflammatory Breast Cancer and especially attacks younger women. Take the OP’s advice, do your monthly BSE and if you’re over 40 get that mammogram!!

If I can get one person to do a self exam than I feel like I have done my part.

Tiger Fan keep fighting. You are in my thought and prayers. :cheer2: Early Detection is the Key.

Mom 2 Ashli - One of my bc sistas is doing that walk too! I think it's aweseome!!! Thanks for walking for every woman!

Tiger Fan - :grouphug: - I look at my Little Girl and I hope and pray that she will never have to deal with Breast Cancer. I feel for you and your families.

All of my DIS-BC-Sisters will be in my heart when I walk.

Yup..sure have.

I am hypervigiliant about this because BC runs in my family and so I'm a prime candidate. One doctor (when I was in HS) told me that no matter what I do, there's a very likely chance it's going to hit me square in the noggin.

Good luck on your walk.

As a survivor, thanks for doing the walk and posting this thread. My cancer was caught on a screening mammogram by a very vigilant radiologist, a woman, no lump to give it away. So get those tests, ladies. A woman breast specialist I consulted with cautioned to not delay the annual mammogram by even one day. The growth pattern of some types of cancer is very scary.

Many kinds of BC are very treatable at early stages when you have more options.

Thanks again, Mom2Ashli.

Amazing Story. :grouphug:

EARLY DETECTION is the Key!

My husband and I walk every October in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk. We don't know anyone with breast cancer, but that doesn't stop us.

And as a Pampered Chef consultant, May is our big breast cancer awareness month. We have a number of special products designed just for this even and $1 from each sale goes to the American Cancer Society. I'm hoping to book a number of parties for May. (If anyone is interested in hosting or ordering any of these special products, just let me know and I will direct you to my website.)

Actually did mine this morning!!

And one of my co-workers is walking Avon Walk in Boston this weekend. 26 miles on Saturday and 13 on Sunday.

Good for you mom2ashli! I almost signed up for the Philadelphia 3 Day with my boss, but fear my knees won't withstand 60 miles in 3 days. That, and I don't think I could raise the required funds by then...even though the boss said she had hers in about a month.

hi:hippie:

I am a girl scout and I'm earning the in the pink intrest project. I need to intervew a survivor. So can any of you let me ask a few questions? If you will please pm me. ty:banana: :cutie:
