Breaking new (for me anyway).....Princess Jess have you heard.......

Kill me.

Seriously, if I had to see this one more time yesterday, I was going to throw my phone.

As much as we'd all love it to, it won't happen.

People don't travel here en masse. It's too far away. Our tourism numbers are so low, it wouldn't be viable.
MK saw what? 19+ million guests last year, and it's increased by 7%, our total population isn't even 25 million (I don't think)

Apparently there were studies done and they estimated we'd get something like 5 million guests, which apparently is what HKDL gets (which I think is way under what they thought they'd get)

@bjmort thibks we may get an Aluani type resort here, but not a park

And yes, you'd still see me. I fell in love with America, I want to come back very much.

Sorry, that came off a bit ranty

Of course, the dream is there, I'd love it!!

Melbourne's weather isn't consistent enough and not nice year round, so that rules my state out.
Sydney is more moderate weather wise, but still gets cold and rainy in winter, so that rules New South Wales out.
Queensland has 3 theme parks and 2 water parks (wet n wild and sea world are 2 of the 5) that I don't think get amazing attendance but are the best we have. Their maintenance isn't near Disney standards, presumably because they don't make enough money. But the weather is warm and a bit further north it is like Florida. Western Australia is hot and desert, but could work well.

Flights aren't cheap domestically in Australia, nor are hotel rooms.

Our wages, even for teenagers, start around $12 p/hr so that would hurt a Disney park or resort.

Entry into 3 of the 5 theme parks/water parks is about $99 unlimited entry I think.
Imagine how our public would receive Disney prices?

Sure there are some of us who love Disney and pay it, but everyone getting excited probably have never been to a Disney park and have no idea what the costs are, let alone taking into account our higher costs and cost of living.

No!! Don't be sorry! I apologize, like I said, I saw it A LOT yesterday and of course, I'd die if there was a Disney park I could visit (relatively) easily, but the sad fact is, I don't think it will happen. It's simply not viable for Disney.

The only way I think this could ever happen is exactly how the article implies (I read the first paragraph of a different one and gave up) just like Tokyo Disneyland.
An outside company will buy the rights to do it. Disney knows it's not worth it, but will take the royalties while letting someone else foot that massive bill

Jes has set out a lot of sound reasons why it won't happen.

My $0.02 is that someone wants to gin up a short-term increase in property values around Melbourne, or worse.: http://crimeblog.dallasnews.com/201...y-plans-gets-17-years-in-federal-prison.html/
Haha yes, I remember this from not too long ago.
That's the thing though: people are so gullible when it comes to Disney that they'll believe anything, so this story about DL down under spread like wild fire because people are hopeful and like I said, probably have no idea how much a Disney vacation costs in the USA, let alone here.

Plus, id be afraid that they'd try to do Australian stuff and lean towards that stereotypical Aussie ("crikey!!" "You bloody drongo" etc) and that would annoy me too much.

I have to say an Alauni type resort in Austalia would be awesome!

Though I assume there would be a Duffy like Kangaroo character that we would then need to by 57 different outfits to introduced

Jes is the flower girl to my wedding we still have got her guys!
Damn straight!! Speaking of: when will I get to pick my dress?

Yeah Jes and I were discussing this on FB

The Australian theme parks don't even reach the 1 million mark in terms of annual attendance. Australian theme park guests also expect just thrill rides. They wouldn't know a dark ride if it slapped them in the face. It's more of a six flags vibe here.

I do believe however that a disney park would increase interest from domestic travelers and that would increase to the 5 million mark for a Disney park.

A park is possible but it would be even smaller than HKDL.

Something I have noticed in Melbourne especially is Disney seems to be testing the publics want for Disney. For example, two years go they had official mickey and Minnie at the Royal Melbourne show (like a state fair) as a paid meet and greet. The line was extremely long. There has also been some other Disney events here which we don't usually get which makes me think they are gauging the public on their interest in Disney. We don't even have Disney stores here anymore so the Australian publics exposure to Disney is quite minimal.

I believe we will get a resort on the gold coast or Sunshine Coast at some point but will be an aulani style thing. Perhaps with a few attractions built in, like its own pirates or Peter Pan and an exclusive e ticket. Wouldn't be hard to put a star tours simulator In a hotel environment.

We can only hope...we can only hope
