Surely an addict is spending more than 350/month on the illegal drugs? Seems it would be a step down in cost.

It depends on the addiction and the addict's source. A lot of times by the time they get to the point of seeking out rehab, they aren't supporting their habit with hard-earned cash - they're dealing, running errands for their suppliers, stealing, or other illegal behaviours that they can't continue in recovery.

A former friend had a serious opiate addiction.. Neither methadone or Suboxone was covered by health insurance.. Tried methadone and failed.. Only a handful of specialized doctors in a 200-mile radius of this persons home was allowed by law to prescribe Suboxone.. The cost (again - not covered by insurance) was $350 a month.. The person then became addicted to the Suboxone - and was never been able to get back off of it as far as I know.. I haven't spoken to this person in several years now..

Unless a person is wealthy - or has some kind of top knotch health insurance - in-patient programs are useless because they don't keep the patient there long enough to deal with the "entire" problem..

It is costly for methodone. He was paying $125 a week since he had to go every day to get it. Once he proved trustworthy he goes once a week and is given 7 day take home. He pays $80 a week now and insurance doesn't cover it. I look at it this way. He had no problems putting out $1000s a week for Oxycotin. He can put out this small amount to get better.

cost isn't really an issue here. methadone clinic is free. found a suboxone doctor for $100/month and meds are free.

yes, someone very close to me. Honestly nothing helped him until he was ready to be helped. Something just clicked and now he's about 4 years sober.

This is the only true answer.

Our very best friends son had every treatment you can imagine. Over and over. Lots of $ invested and thank goodness the family had it. He went into programs all over the USA. Each times they lasted 1-3 months. The last treatment was upstate NY and he stayed for a year. He has been clean for 4 years now.
