Breakfast the day you leave?

Thank you for helping me to sort out my first day plans for when we get in. Now I'm working on breakfast for the day we leave! It's a Monday, and our flight leaves MCO at 1:35pm. I read somewhere we should plan 3 hours to get to the airport and get settled for our flight. Is that adequate? That would mean leaving at 10:30am. We'll have a rental car to return and I was assuming we'd do the (I forget what it's called) where we check in our bags at POR and they get them to the plane for us. That would be super magical!
pixiedust:

So do we have time for one last fling with a fun breakfast? We're staying at POR. So far, thanks to the feedback in the other thread, my improved itinerary is:

Thurs-arrive, nap/swim, Hoop Dee Doo
Friday-MK for me+ds while dh and gramps visit the groom
Sat-wedding
Sun-breakfast at Kona, mini golf, dinner at DS (thinking House of Blues, yum!), and La Nouba
Monday-breakfast and depart

That's what I've got. I decided it just wasn't possible to do everything I wanted to and that we just had to work with the group we've got. It's better to keep our group together and come back another time and really do Disney. This will be our sampler to realize we want to. :teeth:

So as far as breakfast Monday, Whispering Canyon would be fun as far as the theme, but would it be WORTH it? Or is it ostensibly just eggs just like POR will have and making our morning feel more rushed? I liked the logic of filling up before we depart, because honestly we're going to have a mess taking a flight right around/after lunchtime. I'm gonna have some hungry men on my hands! Is there something I can buy at Disney and just take with us to eat at the airport while we wait? (I mean real food, like sandwiches or boxed salads or something.) Or is the airport food divine? Or should we try to eat a super hearty breakfast?

How much time will it take, reasonably, to go from POR to somewhere, eat that hearty breakfast, and get back? Does checkout take a while? I've only done hotels, and there you just check out on the tv, lol. I have no clue how disney does it.

Thanks for any advice!

I wouldn't add stress to the morning rush of departure, why not have breakfast at POR counter service? Each resort have a specialty at POR Beignets are popular add a bounty full platter and you have a lot of food, hotel have plenty of pre packaged food for the ride home. I think trying to do a table service breakfast will take to much time, imagine they don't seat you on time? You will be rushing way to much, POR is a beautiful resort enjoy your last hours in it.

Well foo, I'm looking at the La Nouba stuff and realizing they don't even have performances on Sundays, oops. I was really going great there until that, lol.

We always like a character meal to end our trips. Most start serving at 7am. I'd book an 8am reservation have the car packed first and head to the airport. I think you'll have lots of time.

I had not seen your "improved" plan, but I would NOT do HDDR on travel day. Travel day is full of unexpected, uncontrollable delays. If you are delayed and miss HDDR, you loose the full cost of a very expensive meal each. Plus it is highly unlikely that you will have a room to nap in during that day. I know you feel like your vacation starts at 11, but that just isn't the case. You will likely not get to POR until close to 1 and not get a room until near 3. You need to leave about 90 minutes to get to HDDR, even with a rental car.
If I was doing a breakfast on my last day and had to leave for the airport by 10:30, I would schedule an ADR no later than 8:45. I think you need to be up, car packed with bags and checked out of your room prior to heading out to an ADR. That is an early, stressful morning for your group.
WCC is a nice breakfast buffet if you think it is worth the trouble.

It doesn't take long to check your bags for the airport & you don't have to do anything to check out.
I would do a character breakfast: like Chef Mickeys if you like the Fab 5.
Sunday since your other plans aren't working did you consider a park day: Epcot or AK. & have fun checking out the park that day. If at Epcot you'd have lots of great choices of where to eat at too.

Here is what I would suggest:

Thurs-arrive, nap/swim, Disney Springs in the evening via the POR boat
Friday-MK for me+ds while dh and gramps visit the groom
Sat-wedding
Sun-breakfast at Kona, mini golf, Hoop de Doo
Monday-breakfast and depart

We almost always go to 1900 Park Fair. Good food, great character interaction, great ambience at the Grand Floridian. Second choice would probably be the Poly for the Lilo and Stich breakfast.

Our first stay, we got 1900 park fair breakfast (I loved the mad hatter, so fun!)
Second stay, we got Kona breakfast.
This time I am hoping to get WCC.

I think, a resort TS is much less stressful and more possible than a park one. I would be sad to leave without a last sit down breakfast!

If characters aren't a must, from POR it is quite convenient to get to Olivia's at Old Key West, and from OKW it is convenient to get off campus.

I have heard A++ things about Olivia's for breakfast.

Someone help me out here. Since they are not using ME, can they still do the airport check in at their resort? We've always used ME, so I'm not sure on this one.

Oh sigh, I'm listening. :) I'm going to talk it through with the people and give them the choice of mini-golf + HDDR on Sunday OR Epcot. I'm watching a walkthrough of Epcot right now. It's hard for me to gauge whether this is like wear him out in a fun wear or wear him out in a not fun way. The first 30 minutes of the youtube walkthrough was really boring. If it was just me and my ADHD family members, we'd be through that in a FLASH. But hopefully the world showcase part is more interesting. Flowers and concrete sidewalks aren't cutting it. I think my dad would like Nemo and Soarin'. I don't think he'd do Test Track, but we'd like it, hehe. So it all depends on the world showcase and then just that sense of how much walking this REALLY is. I did look into scooters, but I don't think he'll go for it. He's just in that odd situation of being young (66) but a disabled veteran. So it's kinda tricky to estimate what is good fun, a nice change (he lives in assisted living), and what is too much, kwim?

So yes, I'll chill on the HDDR on Thurs. I'm listening, lol.

I apologize for asking, but what's WCC? It sounds like pretty much any of them would be equivalently happy. I have a reservation in for Kona but could get Park Fare. I need to show my ds. *I* want to do a character breakfast. I'm just afraid the men will think it was silly. But you never know... And ds will be 8. He's sort of literal with his autism and he may or may not dig the characters. I think he might, but the breakfast at Kona would be better food. I'll show him the pics and see I guess.

Thanks for the recommend on Olivia's! I'll go look at it. I agree that good food plus convenience would be a nice start to our morning. :)

m just afraid the men will think it was silly.

Now, this is your family not mine, but in my family, my approach to this would be to stomp my foot, say "I'm doing the planning here, and this will be fun to experience with (child name), SUCK IT UP." I seem to recall your DS is still in the age range where telling the adults it is for him still is credible.

For character breakfasts, Cape May is one of the best -- it's not as loud as some of the others, and the food is good. With the ADHD crew, the lowered noise level might appeal?

Yes, from what I've read and what I thought they said on the phone, we can use their baggage check-in service because we're staying in the resort.

Well, Epcot is not like Youtube. I think that of all the parks, it is my favorite, and is much more than sidewalks and pretty flowers. If you are considering it, I suggest looking at all of the attractions there because you missed some good ones.

Living with the Land is a nice boatride through the greenhouses. IT is informational and fun. You can enjoy this one when you go on Soarin. They are in the same pavilion.

Next door is The Living Seas. This pavilion is not to be missed. Nemo is there, but the aquarium is awesome, and throughout the day there are exhibits.

Spaceship Earth is in the "ball" and is an iconic attraction that I think should not be missed.

Test Track is not too far from Spaceship Earth and we like it.

We also always stop at Club Cool to test Coke beverages. Your son will love it!

In the World Showcase there is a lot of entertainment, as we as two attractions. Frozen Even After and The Three Caballeros. There is also a scavenger hunt that kids love, I think it is Agent P. Personally I would hit the park and skip mini golf in a heartbeat.

On your departure day, you do need at least 3 hours to depart. Because you are driving your travel window for breakfast is shorter, so I think a character meal would be fun.

I think you have time to schedule an early meal at anyone of the monorail resorts or at the Beach Club. I likes 1900 Park Fare at the Grand, The food is good, and the characters are fun. Your son may prefer the traditional characters though, so I would look at Cape May for Mickey and Pals, or at the Poly to have breakfast with Lilo, Stitch and mickey and Pluto. FUN!

Whispering Canyon Café (WCC) is at the Wilderness Lodge. It is not a character meal. Be aware that there are shenanigans with the servers, so you may or may not like it. I do not. bit it is a favorite of many.

Btw, somebody said something about other people wanting early check-in too. Fine, but toddlers can sleep in a car, in a stroller, etc. A 6'4" disabled veteran can only rest so many places. I make no apologies for doing everything I can to give him a good trip.

I would not pay attention to that. You know what your family requires, so no worries. Please thank your Veteran for his service an sacrifice.

What goes on at WCC if I may ask? We were thinking about a meal here to.

It is a TS restaurant in Wilderness Lodge. The servers will often have fun with guests. For instance, if you ask for ketchup you may get 24 bottles. If you ask for a strew you may get one that has 110 all attached to make a huge hose. Some servers will play, others do not. it is not required, but rather is encouraged. I found it loud and just did not enjoy it. A lot of people really do. I would say that it can be a lot of fun, and a trip to the WL is lovely.

I agree! And you're right, I'll just get convinced in my mind and tell 'em to suck up. Besides, if we don't do Epcot, we can do two TS breakfasts, which means we could do one character and one not. They could survive that. If we do Epcot, then, bwahaha, we would probably do the character breakfast.

Ok, I'll just ask, and y'all can keel over and say it's insane. Is it kinda reasonable to do Epcot during the day and then go do dinner at the Brown Derby at DHS and do Fantasmic?

I also am thinking that if our group says yes Epcot on Sunday, then I could take ds8 to the EMH at DHS, then meet the men over at Epcot at like 10:30, using FP to do rides. We'll also have the option of DAS for our group, because of ds. Epcot is mostly eating your way through the world, just a few things we'd need FP for yes? Ds would like the Frozen show, so we'd FP that. But if most things are sort of meandering, then it would actually be ok to have a later start yes? And I would think with the EMH that we could knock out the few major rides at DHS in a couple hours, yeah?

So you see how I get back to the idea of Brown Derby for VIP Fantasmic, lol. But is that nuts to do DHS in the morning 8-10, meet the men at 10:30 for Epcot, and then go back over to DHS for Brown Derby Dinner and Fantasmic? It would be simpler just to wake up and go do Epcot, but really I think my dad will be tired. He'll try to be a good sport, but he'll be tired. So having the *option* to sleep in while the more active people go early would make more sense. That's our Epcot, no TS breakfast path, seems to me. Only question on that is whether it's DHS+ Epcot (for the wild ones) or just Epcot.

I've been trying to watch youtube, and Illuminations looks boring. Fantasmic seems a lot more fun.

Also, this is crazy, but could we get my dad in the *side* entrance on Epcot and skip the whole front half with the lands? How much trouble would that be from POR? On the map it says boat and walkway to resorts and DHS. That entrance takes you into the world showcase part. Could he go from POR to there and skip all the front half walking? If he could, that would seal the deal. Then I would *think* we could do like 10-4 in World Showcase, 4:30 at Brown Derby (the latest you can do for the Fantasmic VIP). Oh, are later Brown Derby res like 5:30 just filled up and that's why I'm not seeing them? Hmph, sometimes I'm less than brilliant.
