For people who have run the Disneyworld marathon before what did you eat for breakfast/where did you get it? I assume that the food in the hotels is not available at 3 or 4am so do you just grab stuff the night before and eat it? Man, I really like hot oatmeal for breakfast ;)

Most of the resort hotels will have a place open to get coffee, bagels, toast, etc., before the weekend's races.

In 2011, we stayed at POP and the food court was open early.

In 2013 and 2014, we stayed at POFQ and the food court was NOT open. They had box breakfasts for sale the day before; I think it had a bagel, PB, granola bar, and fruit.

I'm not sure if the difference was due to the change in resorts or 2013 vs. 2011.

Based on that, my plan is always to be self-sufficient food-wise on race day.

I just brought my own food for breakfast before the marathon. The same food I always ate before my long runs during training, that's what I brought with me and ate before the marathon.

All Stars and POFQ had a limited opening when I did it in 2010 and 2011. You could get grab and go, but not cooked things.

If oatmeal is your go to, I'd pack instant packets and use water. There are microwaves in the food court.

During PHM this past year ASSp had boxed breakfasts the night before... bagel, banana, bottled water, and granola bar... worked perfect for me since my typical pre race meal is a bagel w/peanut butter...I remember them being a pretty good price too...

Depending on where your staying the gift shops normally have little things like bread, jam, cereals for sale too if you didnt want to bring your own you could buy the night before either from the shop or food court

For the PHM I packed oatmeal (what I used during training) and brewed water in the coffee pot every morning. It worked well. I do add a little milk in my oatmeal too so I just bought a small bottle the day we got there.
I used the disposable coffee cups for a bowl and grabbed spoons from the quick service place at the Dolphin.

Thanks all. I was planning to bring my own peanut butter anyway since that packs easily so maybe I can get a bagel the night before. I will investigate instant oatmeal since usually I am a rolled or steel cut kind of girl. That would be great to have. Too bad I can't make a smoothie, I think that would be best for my body. My mom suggested bringing an immersion blender but I cannot imagine trying to fly frozen blueberries from MA to FL!

Part of my issue is that I don't usually eat before runs but I've never run a marathon and obviously I will need to eat before 26.2 miles! I get up and run early in the morning so there's no time to eat real food and then wait two hours and then run. I need to figure out how to experiment with that. I've become such a morning runner that I kind of hate running any time past 8 or 9am.

If you're staying on property you can also order groceries from garden grocer prior to your arrival. Your order will be delivered directly to your room. So if you don't have a car but would like something that the resort gift shop might not offer this is another great option.

I am a morning runner too, but I have to eat. I eat 2 Belvita biscuits 30 minutes before I run. I've never had a stomach issue. Whether you eat or not usually, you will definitely need to eat before the race. From the time you leave your room until you start could be hours. I'm not a marathoner, but I did the PHM this year. When I woke up, I ate peanut butter and crackers that I had brought. Then I took a pack of Belvitas with me. I ate 2 on the bus, then I ate when I got in the corral. I was in I, so I didn't start right away. I may have eaten a banana somewhere in there as well.

Getting up that early and doing everything to get ready for the race is stressful and fun at the same time so I try to simplify the breakfast process by bringing with me and just having a Clif bar and a banana right before leaving the room and then a croissant with butter at the food court with a bottle of Gatorade.

While you're checking out the oatmeal, look at the lower sugar varieties.

My favorite is Quaker Maple and Brown Sugar. I just ran a compare on their website. The lower sugar kind has 4 grams of sugar vs. 12 for the regular. (4 grams = 1 teaspoon.) I also cut it with some plain 1 minute oatmeal to up the nutrition to calories ratio.

It's not going to pass for steel-cut, or even 'real' oatmeal but when you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with! (Applies to food only).

I'm similar to many here. When I'm home my pre-race meal is a waffle with peanut butter and jelly. Travel running I always pack Kind Bars and eat 1 or 2 (depends on how long I'm going to run) of them while I'm getting dressed.

You wait a long time before races, so you'll have time to digest and it's really important to eat before a marathon. I also make sure to eat one or two of my Clif Bloks as the early waves start to go so that it hits my system by the time I need the energy.

Oatmeal is a usual breakfast for me when I'm at WDW, for a runDisney event or not. I rise well before the food courts are open and have found it quite convenient to toss in instant packs in my suitcase or grab some from a grocery if I have a car. Mircowaving in the food court or brewing water through the coffee machine have been my usual methods.

thanks, I would likely just get plain, i cannot usually tolerate whatever they put in to sweeten instant oatmeal, just ends up tasting fake to me. I might bring a little honey and some butter to add in though!
