Will we be missing anything if we choose to eat breakfast and lunch on deck instead of the dining room? Obviously it's self serve at the buffet, but what types of things will we miss if we eat at the buffet?

We have always done breakfast and lunch in the buffet. You dont really miss anything, accept being waited on. You will see all the designs of the restaurants at dinner time, so really nothing to be missed. The buffet is a different themed food everyday so it actually has a much better selection than the restaurants do. Of course with the buffet you have the option of dining inside and outside which is a nice change of pace and very informal and relaxed.

with 2 kids, you'll probably play alot of your day "by ear". I liked getting up early and enjoying a quiet breakfast from the buffet outside (watch out; can get pretty windy), and sometimes brought breakfast back down to my room to eat on the balcony.

My twin 7yo boys spent much of the days in the pools, so lunch was caught at the buffet and Pluto's/Pinnochio's - where ever the mood took them!

Next time I will try lunch at least once in the restaurants, just for a change of pace. But overall, I liked eating breakfast and lunch outside, catching as much sun as I could on my vacation!

Enjoy your trip!!! :sunny:

You get the same themed food in PC at lunch. Our favorite is the Asian buffet with the chef making your lunch fresh. :) :) :) We like going to Topsiders for the breakfast because we can get thru faster than in Lumiere's. We like going to PC at lunch. You wont see chicken fingers on the buffet but if you ask your waiter, they will get some for your kids. :)

By same themed food, do you mean same theme as at the buffet? or same theme all week?

well to play devil's advocate, and to add in my 2 cents, I would like to offer a differing opinion.

I have to disagree that you don't really miss out on anything if you always do the buffet instead of the dining rooms, although I do see some benefits to those with small children being able to get food quickly with minimal fuss. Also those couples without children who just "vant to be alone.." If you are looking to get food fast, get done and then high tail it out of there, then yes that probably is the best option.

I think everything about the dining experience just furthers your experience on the boat as well. The ambiance is difinately different in the dining areas from the buffet. Yes, you can still get some of the same menus, but keep in mind that the company of the table, your servers that you have all week, and the presentation of the food, is also part of the experience. This is especially true of Animator's Palace.

Just my opinion,

and of course my boys ( and my DH LOL) do both.. they have a regular breakfast in the dining room, then visit the buffet and stuff them selves with donuts, and fruit loops..

We always try to have lunch in the dining room a few days during our trips. It's a nice break, and we always love the appetizers and desserts. In fact, we rarely order an entree and just make our own tapas meals and then try two or three desserts between the four of us.

In general we do prefer sit down meals, and especially on vacation. We eat breakfast in the dining room pretty much every day.

We didn't like the dining room breakfast. We much preffered the buffet for breakfast.

We did 1 lunch in the dining room to just say we did it, and would do that again.
We did the Character Breakfast and final day breakfast in the dining room, but were never up early enough otherwise to eat breakfast in the dining room. Since the Character Breakfast and final breakfast have limited menus, I never did get my beloved Eggs Benedict.
