We're staying at the Poly before a cruise in late June for two nights. The day we are driving to the port, I had planned to eat at the Kona Cafe (Tonga Toast)! and then stop to see the AKL. Should we change this to just include the Boma breakfast buffet? Two adults two kids, 10 & 4. Thanks for your help!

We enjoyed our breakfast at Kona...but we LOVE breakfast at BOMA!
I highly recommend BOMA!! This will be a great way to start the day and since you want to go there anyway, I say to go for it!

My first thought when I read your thread title was "can you do both".
But then maybe I am just hungry.
We ate at both (on different days ;) ) on our last trip and enjoyed both very much.
But, if both aren't an option I would suggest trying Boma. Which I am assuming is the one you havent tried yet.
Lots of selection and tons of food.

Actually I haven't tried either one, haven't visited either the Poly or AKL. I want to do and see everything. I was just trying to get in the tropical groove before our cruise!

They are both great so its a hard decision.
My hubby doesnt care for French toast and isn't a banana fan so we would choose Boma - so we would both have lots of options. Breakfast options at Kona beyond the Tonga Toast are standard, if memory serves me correctly. If you are coffee drinkers I have heard the coffee bar right next to the Kona Cafe has the best at WDW, maybe you could grab a cup of Java on your way to Boma?
Good Luck!

We had a really good dinner at the Kona, maybe thats a way to enjoy both? Dinner at one and Bkfast at the other?

As far as getting into a tropical groove...pick up the Beauty and the Beat CD. Its steel drum music of disney songs. Play it in the car on the way to Port and you will be ready.

Have a great Cruise!

danicaw - Hi! We've already got a res. at 'Ohana, so which is better for dinner, 'Ohana or Kona? Decisions decisions. I just hated to miss this Tonga Toast everyone raves about, but maybe room service before we go to Boma. Oink Oink!

I'm trying to decide between Kona and Whispering Canyon Cafe for breakfast the morning of our cruise. We're staying at the Wilderness Lodge and having DINNER at Boma the night before (which I HIGHLY recommend--loved it better than O'Hana). I LOVE Kona's breakfasts, but it seems silly to go over to the Poly and never eat at the WL.

So, my recommendation (and what I just realized I will do):

Dinner at Boma
Breakfast at Kona

But if dinner at Boma isn't an option, cause you're committed to O'Hana and/or Kona, I'd recommend Boma for breakfast just to get you over to the Animal Kingdom Lodge to look around. Just be sure to save room for the Embarkation Buffet on the ship!

The Tonga Toast, by the way, is worth it. And Kona serves Kona Coffee in a french press pot, so if you're coffee-oriented, it's also worth it. Plus here's the rest of the
menu, from Deb's WDWIG site.

Good luck!

It just so happens that I've enjoyed breakfast at both restaurants within the past week. While we enjoyed breakfast at the Kona Cafe, we REALLY enjoyed breakfast at Boma's.

We'd never been to AKL before and were not disappointed. The buiding and grounds are beautiful...rich in both culture and fun! We took a stroll around the lobby and gift shop and then headed outdoors. We saw many animals roaming the grounds. There are several viewing areas that provide fantastic photo ops.

Breakfast was a great blend of traditional breakfast buffet fare (omlettes, eggs, pancakes, fruit, cereal)and a few African dishes. Don't miss the delicious house specialty juice! Or the amazing pastries! The restaurant is large, with plenty of room between tables...not crowded at all.

The Kona Cafe, on the other hand, is much smaller and very noisy. The Tonga Toast is amazing, but (for us!), too much. Very sweet. We all felt a little ill with our sugar buzz for hours after the meal. Of course, we love the Polynesian, and also enjoyed a nice stroll around its grounds and shops.

Either way, have a fantastic vacation. We're headed on the Wonder later this week for our third Disney Cruise! Bon Voyage!
