Breakfast Items???

fyi I got a toaster at Target for $7, it's not top of line and you do have to watch what you're toasting or it will burn but it was only $7 so I'm not complaining. :) That said I have NEVER taken a toaster or any other appliance to a hotel room and I would assume I could that. The rooms that don't have appliances available at the HoJo don't have the wiring to run them safely so really I would just take stuff we could eat cold or room temp. We stay at the HoJo a lot, things we've taken are cereal (just regular cold cereal, we get milk at Target), granola bars, fruit, muffins. those are all good stored at room temp. A time or two I took hard boiled eggs for DD14 & DBF, they just added them to their mix and ate them up. But we drive from home so we have the luxury of being able to take more items from home.

I'm not sure about that - (the comment I highlighted with bold font) - how would one know if their computer or other personal electronic device would be 'safe' to run on the current wiring if that were the case.?...

(I would assume that the wiring is up to code, I just assume that Hojo's may not have space for a microwave or just may not feel it's important to some, so perhaps they keep those rooms a little less $$$? Surely if those rooms can accommodate a fridge they can also/ or either/ accommodate a microwave (?))

I do understand your concern about bringing your own personal appliance such as a toaster, in case something happened... I agree it may not be such a good idea.

You should never run an appliance in a hotel room without first checking with the Hotel management.

HoJo Hints & Tips from the DISBoards
by Lorealle » Fri Apr 23, 2010 12:51 pm

Hey Everybody!

There's a great thread over at the DISBoards where guests that have stayed with us before are posting their tips for planning and packing during your stay with us! I thought that some of the information could be really helpful, and I wanted to share a link to that thread on our Boards!

Here are some of my favorite tips:

-You can get a free paper in the Gift Shop.
-You can get a discount in the Gift Shop if you have any annual pass to DL.
-If you get there before check-in and your room isn't ready, they will hold your bags and have in the past brought them up to our room.
-You can get a pool key and change in one of their restrooms, while you wait for your room.
-If you preorder groceries and are arriving after check-in they will put your perishables in the fridge. And other items in your room.
-I see some people bring their own pool towels but you don't need to, the pool areas have towels available and they are good size.
-Bring a power strip
-Bring a nightlight.
-If you leave the building take your room key. I took stuff out to the car at about 6 am on our departure day and the automatic doors required my room key to get back in.
-I try to remember to bring our own Tylenol or Ibuprofen (for those end-of-the day muscle aches), some cold medicine (just in case), water, lots of snacks and plastic zipper bags to put them in for carrying around during the day, and an ice chest with small milks, cheese, and fruits and veggies for the fridge because I would rather be spending my money on food and stuff in the parks than convenience items in the hotel store.
-As for the walk over to the park, you save time by walking on the Disneyland side of the street. Cross at the crosswalk from HOJOs to Mimi's then cross Harbor immediately at the crosswalk at Mimi's. The park side walk somehow always feels more pleasant to me. At certain times of the day it is shaded, and it is always less crowded than the hotel side across the street. You save steps at the end of the walk by cutting in through the opening to your right just pass the bus stops (rather than waiting until you reach the light and the entrance cross walk that everybody still on the other side of the street will be using) and cross through what used to be the taxi area but what now seems to just be a throughway for all the trams and buses.

And if you want even more great advice, here is the link to that thread!

Hope this helps!

If a power strip is okay, is it safe to assume that a toaster is okay as well? As great of an idea it is to take one, the whole idea just makes me nervous!:scared:

A power strip and a toaster are not the same thing. IMO, as a stated before, just ask them if it is okay.

:lmao:Yes, I understand that they are two different things.:rotfl:

Well you said that if you can bring one, you should be able to bring the other. Now if they said you could bring a hot plate then I would say okay a toaster should be okay. But a power strip does not lead me to assume I can bring a kitchen appliance.

No, no, no. I did not state that, I was simply asking a question. Next time, I'll remember to explain myself and be specific. I just didn't want my post to be ridiculously lenthgy.

;)

On a lighter note, It's Friday, the weekend is here and I'm excited to start shopping for things on my Disney list. Oh how I love the anticipation of a Disney trip!:yay:

what about mimi's cafe? mimi's is good ..but i'd with the muffin thing. and try boiling water through there coffee makers. its easy, they have keurig's!

or the hotels near it and the restaraunts they have??

I have a friend who is an electrician, he did some wiring for us in our house so we trust him. We mentioned taking a small appliance and he gave the reasoning that many appliances run with a higher voltage and perhaps the buildings at the HoJo that don't have microwaves can't handle the higher voltage. He stated that cell phones need the same voltage as a light fixture but that some things need a higher voltage and may cause a short if we used them in the room. He stated that most "personal electronic devices" run off "normal" voltage and don't need anything bigger but that if we had a plug with a fridge and then we plugged in something like a toaster, a small microwave (we were talking about getting a cheapo micro to take with us) or even a George Forman type grill that it could overload the wiring and cause a fire. So I'm basing my thoughts on what he told me. :)

I'm confused....if a particular Hojo room has wiring that can handle a TV (big electricity consumtion) how would that same room or hotel tower not be able to handle the electrical demand of running a 2 slice toaster?

I'm just telling you what he told me.....that's all. I have no idea what type of wiring HoJo has, or how the rooms are wired. I'm just relaying what he said to me. I do know that our house has different wiring depending on what's on that wall, for instance we have special wiring on the wall that our saltwater fish tank is on, it needed it so it has it. :) It's possible that the HoJo has the TV and fridge on the same wall because of the wiring and it's possible that if you plug something else in there it will cause a fire, possible but not set in stone or anything. :)

ummmmm......just a thought.... Has anyone actually just called HOJO's and ASKED if you can take a toaster??? :confused3 That seems a little better then asking here and getting flames thrown at you. :rolleyes1 Just a thought...

I'm just going to say I've had some actual classes studying circuits. The assumption that a TV puts more stress on a wired than a toaster can be completely wrong.

Also thinking that the cheapest toaster you could by is a safe bet is very wrong. china doesn't make great products and even thier crap can make it's way into American stores.

That said only Hojo can tell you if bringing in a toaster or foreman grill or panini maker is alright.

Here's the official answer:

Hello Christa,

Thank you for your email. Unfortunately, we do not let guest bring toasters as it is a fire hazard inside the room.

The reason being is that the voltage in our rooms is not equipped for more than it permits. If you have a any questions please let me know.

Huh, look at that, my electrical friend was dead on. :) I'm glad we never did that! lol

Funny how people will argue about something but once they are shown that the truth they walk away with their tails between their legs w/o even a simple guess I was wrong/You were right.
