I have a room booked at the HOJO, but it does not include a microwave. (I called to see if I could request one at a fee, but unfortunately, they don't do that:() Now I'm left trying to figure out what I can take for breakfast that doesn't require warming up. So far, I've come up with yogurt - and well, that's it. I was going to take oatmeal, but is that possible with their coffee makers? I'm trying to avoid going to a restaurant/McDonald's. Any suggestions???

Why not get yourself an electric teapot to bring along for the oatmeal? It couldn't cost anymore than the fee for a microwave rental you were willing to pay.

Have you considered muffins or fresh fruit, bagels & cream cheese?

Take a really cheap toaster. You can do so much with this, waffles, toast, bagels, toaster breakfast sandwiches etc. We are bringing one in November.

There's always cold cereal. I know it's not as exciting as a hot breakfast but it's a good option. Things that are less breakfasty but would work are peanut butter and crackers (or pj&j sandwiches), cheese, cottage cheese and fruit.

I like fiber bars, the ones from Kelloggs is good, Target's generic one is good also. I also love Clif or Luna bars. They keep you filled a little longer and they are good for your system! ;)

We always use the coffee pot to make hot water for tea, so I am sure you could do instant oatmeal too.

You will need to clean the filter basket really well first but it should work really well.

FiberOne, granola, cereal, or other bars.

We always bring cold cereal, bagels, donuts, cereal bars and fruit.

I can't believe I forgot some of the basics!

Thanks all! I don't feel panicked anymore! Great choices/suggestions. Now there are plenty of options for my picky dd!:)

Another "bring a toaster" recommendation. Just watch I closely...Hojo rooms all have windows or sliding patio doors that open even if there is a teeny bit of smoke.

We always bake a loaf of banana or pumpkin bread to bring, also hard-boiled eggs, fruit.

I like taking food that I can eat on the go so that I don't have to rush and eat it before I leave. So yogurt, fruit, wheat thins (with or without peanut butter), granola bars are all really good and don't require cooking.

My favorite isn't really a breakfast food, but it doesn't matter.
Peanut butter and banana sandwich. Mmmm

When we stayed last year for a week, the one and only time we used the microwave was to reheat some Thai food we had brought home from one of our dinners out. Having the fridge turned out to be much more important than the microwave.

Yes you could use the coffee maker to make oatmeal if it is a Keurig - I think that is what they have in every room.

My favorite breakfast is easy - and cold! Yogurt (any kind you like, I like the Greek Honey Yogurt) topped with berries and granola. You can buy frozen berries and let them thaw overnight in the fridge.

I've done this before. You can buy a really cheap toaster at walmart for about 12 bucks. Then just throw it out when you leave and you'll have the room the toaster would have taken up for souvenirs.

fyi I got a toaster at Target for $7, it's not top of line and you do have to watch what you're toasting or it will burn but it was only $7 so I'm not complaining. :) That said I have NEVER taken a toaster or any other appliance to a hotel room and I would assume I could that. The rooms that don't have appliances available at the HoJo don't have the wiring to run them safely so really I would just take stuff we could eat cold or room temp. We stay at the HoJo a lot, things we've taken are cereal (just regular cold cereal, we get milk at Target), granola bars, fruit, muffins. those are all good stored at room temp. A time or two I took hard boiled eggs for DD14 & DBF, they just added them to their mix and ate them up. But we drive from home so we have the luxury of being able to take more items from home.

Just call Hojo and ask if they allow toasters, some hotels do.

Remember, Hojo's has a little convenience store too and Mimi's is right next door for take out. McDonald's is on your way to DLR and IHOP too.

Here's my list: cereal bars, bag of granola, Pop Tarts, muffins, cereal, sliced cheese, cheese cubes, Carnation instant breakfast, Scones, trail mix, donuts, bread for cheese or pb sandwich, rice cakes and flavored cream cheese.
