I was sad to see on Tripadvisor that the highest ranked breakfast restaurant in Orlando is a Perkins. Are you kidding me?

Somebody please tell me there is a good local run place near Universal (where our hotel next week is located) that we can get a good breakfast? :confused3

What about that Delish bagel place that's mentioned on the podcast? I'm not sure where it is in relation to Universal, though.

One of the things that really kind of sucked about living in FL was how many of the restaurants were chains as opposed to small and locally owned. You could find them but it was much harder than it is up here where there are whole areas that have very few if any chains (Ohio City and Tremont come to mind).

I know it doesn't help you but I do feel your pain. Have you tried Urban Spoon or Yelp?

I need to check Urban Spoon and Yelp, thanks.

I hear you about the chains. We have a handful of local joints in town, and there are some good local places in St. Augustine when we take a day to head down there, but overall most places are chains. Sadly the local places don't seem to last very long. :sad2:

Both of those sites were great when I was in DC last year. All the places we found through them were great.

That's how it was in Tampa/Clearwater while I was there. I know of a couple of small places that are pretty good but so many were chains or local places that would be there for a month and then gone. I don't even mind so much the local chains that have 4 or 5 locations in a metro area but I avoid the Olive Gardens and Applebee's of the world whenever possible.

I know it's very close to the parks, but why not try Trattoria del Porto at the Portofino Bay? They have a good breakfast buffet, and afterwards, you can walk around the Portofino property and enjoy the peace before heading over to the parks. ;)

What about that Delish bagel place that's mentioned on the podcast? I'm not sure where it is in relation to Universal, though.

Delish is in Dr. Philips which is about halfway between Disney and Universal... maybe 10 minutes drive from Universal? Delish is fabulous. They have awesome breakfast sandwiches, smooth coffee and to die for cupcakes :thumbsup2

Other than that I can't really think of any locally owned breakfast restaurants- sad huh :confused3

It's a chain, but Mimi's Cafe near Millenia has really good food (at least I like it). From Universal, I-4 East to the Conroy exit, right on Conroy, then right again at the first light. Probably a 5 minute drive.

There is a great breakfast place called First Watch on Sand Lake Road.

It's in the Publix plaza.

It's a five minute drive from Hotel Plaza Blvd.

First Watch is AWESOME!!!!!!! Another place we found is KEKE's it's on Millinuem blvd (right next to the mall in one of the shopping areas) yummy breakfast and coffee.

There is also IHOP near hotel blvd.

About once a month I go to Solaris, in the World Center Marriott. The buffet is currently $22.95 including non-alcoholic beverages. They have omlettes and Eggs Benedict to order. Thast have about a dozen kinds of fruit and about a dozen kinds of pastries. Bacon, three type of sausage, hot and cold cereals, lox, blintzes, assorted meats including Parma Ham, assorted cheeses. I would estimate all sections of the buffet together run about 70 feet long.

And it is seven days a week.

We'll probably decide between one of the two of these. We can go to the other places at home (Mimi's, Ihop, etc). Thanks for the suggestions. :thumbsup2

At Delish right now... And it is! :) Yummy noms and less than 2 minutes from our hotel. Perfect!
