breakfast challenge - updated question post #6

I think I'm going to strike out but.... I'm looking for a breakfast buffet around but not in MK with no characters? DBr and I will be hopping the Lynx bus at TTC for a day at SW and I'd like to get a good breakfast first. We currently have an ADR at Kona. Is there anywhere we can go without characters? Can we ask them not to bother coming to our table (can we get one waaay in a corner somewhere?) What do you suggest.

It's not near the Magic Kingdom, but the Captain's Grill at the Yacht Club offers both a buffet and menu order items, and there are no characters. The Whispering Canyon Cafe at the Wilderness Lodge doesn't have a buffet, but they do have a "bottomless" skillet with: scrambled eggs; suasage; bacon; breakfast potatos; biscuits and sausage gravy; waffles. If you don't want any of the items on the skillet just ask your server and they will keep them off.

You can ask them to skip your table. If there is a handler with the character inform him/her. If not, then as the character approaches, you can say "thank you but I see you need to go see those kids, we don't mind you skipping us for the little ones".

Of course I guess I didn't ask if you had kids, if you do that makes it harder because they want to interact with the characters.

What about Trail's End at Fort Wilderness?

Just a quick boat ride to and from MK and great food. NO characters!!

is to have quick access to TTC. SW is only open until 6pm when we go so I'd like to get there semi-early. I went on line & was able to get 'Ohana at 9am (is it me or are ADRs still very easy to get during free ddp?). Although I did NOT like dinner there, I'm thinking breakfast is pretty hard to screw up. It's listed as "family-style" is it also all-you-can-eat? Chef Mickey's is also available at a good time. But I though not having to get up & go to the buffet table (they bring it to you at 'Ohana correct?) would be nice.

Really, breakfast is my favorite meal so I want to be able to eat myself silly!!! So - 'Ohana or Chef Mickey's. Oh, and nope, no kids.

just looked at the menus and Chef Mickey's seems to have a much wider selection. So, based solely on food, which should I keep, 'Ohana or Chef Mickey? BTW, although the on-line site did tell me I had a conflict, it let me book both with a request that I review & cancel one.

We like both Ohana & Chef Mickey's for breakfast and do both on our trips. If you're looking solely at the food - I think the quality is basically the same at both places, however, Chef Mickey's has much more variety/selection due to it being buffet.

eggs, potatoes, bacon, more bacon, waffles or pancakes and fresh fruit (oh and more bacon). Does 'Ohana have all of that?

If avoiding character interaction and entertainment is top priority to you I would say O'hana - Chef Mickeys is all about the characters as all the "big shots" are here. It's loud and fun and I would say more for families, kids and folks who really like the characters. (The first time I went was when I brought my son last year - other years when we were just adults I avoided it). Yes there is a wider selection of food at Chef Mickeys - it's a buffet not sit down - so if being on the monrail is not negotiable you have Ohana's, Chef Mickeys and 1900 Park Fare. If you want the buffet with more selection, but not as over-the-top character interaction maybe Park Fare.

In any case, I'm sure you can tell your server or the CM who seats you that you would prefer not to have the characters stop by your table.

I am going to throw out something totally different for you. You mention Ohana but what about Kona? Their food is really good. It isn't a buffet but MMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmm! Just sayin'...

I also recommend 'Ohana. Both places are loud and character-oriented, but Chef Mickey's is particularly wild.

haven't been to 'Ohana for breakfast. Have been to both Chef Mickey's and Kona...

KONA rules!

1. NO characters...and very relaxing/quiet/peaceful way to wake up. Chef Mickey's is great for seeing Mickey & Gang...but loud, busy-busy-busy.
2. Selection at Chef Mickey's seemed to us to be geered more to kiddy tastes than adults. There was a variety of foods...but a lot of them were not what adults would normally go for. In other words, the food at CM's wasn't so good that it outweighed the noise & busy-ness.
3. Kona has two outstanding platters -- the Big Kahuna and the Steak & Eggs. The Big Kahuna has pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, breakfast potatoes and french toast. Steak & eggs came with a real steak (not hamburger steak), eggs, breakfast potatoes & biscuit.
4. Kona has fabulous press-pot Kona coffee...swoon!
5. Price: even the steak & eggs platter at Kona is less than Chef Mickey's

but since you asked... I would second considering 1900 Park Faire at GF. I did not like Ohana. The restaurant smells like the grilled meats they serve at dinner, and I didn't love the food. I am not an egg eater, and found the Mickey waffles to be sort of hard and cold. There is so much more to choose from at Park Faire. I loved the different things like cheese blintzes and strawberry soup, my youngest ate his weight in cereal and fruit, and my husband and older son went for all of the traditional eggs, meat and potatoes. On our first trip, my little guy was afraid of the mad hatter, and it was fairly simple to get the cm's to keep the characters at a distance.

if catching the bus is the priority to maximinze your day away from Mickey (and he knows when you leave property you know ), I would head tothe food court at Cooke's or just at Pop

TS breakfast will have you leaving for the bus close to 10, travel time, etc

'Ohana gets the food out to you fairly quickly. We tend to have to wait for the last of the characters after we are finished eating.

I'm also thinking Kona though. It's delicious!

I actually already have an ADR at Kona which was my first choice. And maybe you should go with your first instinct. I think the Poly is the right location. But DD pointed out that we hated dinner at 'Ohana so why do I want to go back? I've already cancelled Chef Mickey's and now I am leaning toward Kona. Oh, decisions, decisions!!!!

It is not a buffet and I don't know if they still make it but Kona at the Poly used to do a stuffed french toast that was out of this world.

I would do 1900 at GF. The food is much better and it has an omelet station. If you don't want the characters, just wave as they walk by, the face characters might talk to you in character and it's fun anyway for a minute as they walk on by. But for food alone I would pick here.

What was wrong with Kona? It would fit the bill except that it is not a buffet.
