So we've decided kind of late to take a short trip to WDW in mid October. DS would like to do a breakfast buffet one morning. We have done Chef Mickey, Crystal Palace, and Boma in years past. I wasn't crazy about Chef Mickeys. We liked Boma and CP but we all want to try something different. We all enjoy the omelete station, so I would prefer a restaurant with one but it's not a deal breaker. We are looking at Cape May and 1900 Park Faire. We don't care about characters, if they're there fine if not even better. Any comments about these two places or any other buffet for that matter. We definitely don't want to go back to the three we've already been to. Though I can't deny I'm would love to go back to CP for some Pooh's Puffed French Toast.

Cape May has a great breakfast buffet. There is not an actual omelet station, but you just tell your server and they will have it made and bring it to you. Love it!

The Wave at the Contemporary supposedly has a rather highly regarded breakfast buffet. I haven't tried it yet, but I have an ADR for it for my next trip.

Much, much, much prefer 1900PF of the two. It does have an omelet station (and lobster eggs Benedict and strawberry soup, yum).

I have eaten at Cape May many times (it is convenient when we stay at YC or BC) and never been offered an omelet by our server. Weird.

We celebrated DD's first 2 birthdays at Cape May :) Service is better than other buffets. Food is reasonable. I would probably recommend 1900PF. You son might enjoy the Mad Hatter. He was really silly with my little ones and I saw him playing around with the adult guests. And they have a bigger food selection.

Cape May & 1900 both have Characters. Both are 'better' buffets.

Wave has a good buffet too, but some folks feel odd standing in what feels like an vestibule to gather their food.

Fresh, inside Dolphin, has a good buffet as well. Omelets, pancakes, etc. made to order. Fresh juices too (i.e., carrot, kale, ginger, apple). It can be a bit pricier than non-Character buffets, but they have discounting with AAA & DVC.

In order of food quality:

Boma
Tusker house/ 1900 park fare
Crystal palace
Trails end
Cape may
Chef mickeys/hollywood and vine

I can't comment on the wave because I was unaware there was one... Will have to try that.

Thanks for all the replies. I should have mentioned DS is a grown man, he'll be 20 when we go.

I am leaning more towards 1900 PF from all the responses and the online menu but I will check out The Wave and Fresh.

OUR WDW CHARACTER MEAL & BUFFET RANKINGS (*rev: February 2015*):

. . . Chef Mickey's
NOTE1: Results are listed from best to worst. Overall, Tusker House wins due to best food and the length of time the characters stay at each table. A close second is 1900 Park Fare. By far, Chef Mickey's is the loser, due to mediocre character interaction and almost terrible food quality. The very distant second worst is Cinderella Royal Table, for brief time at tables by characters and the new menu.

Would you consider O'hana? It's not buffet but all you can eat family style. The food was great and the location is really fun. CP is one of our favorites, we have done Cape May and really enjoyed it but it wasn't worth the travel time on a park day for us.

I would recommend Tusker House or 1900 Park Fare. Both have been great for my family but are very different experiences.

Captain's Grille has a breakfast buffet that we've had twice. First time really enjoyed it, second time it was so-so. No characters and can't recall if they have an omelet station. They also have a regular breakfast menu that includes a lobster omelet (not sure about others).

We really enjoy Tusker House. I have never been to Cape May for breakfast (been for dinner) but we did enjoy 1900 Park Fare and Ohana for breakfast!

We enjoy 1900 Park Fare breakfast. It does have the characters, Alice in Wonderland is super sweet and the Mad Hatter is crazy lol. The food is pretty decent, my son loved the strawberry soup (hes an extremely picky eater, so the fact that he even tried it was a HUGE success, lol). We've never eaten at Cape May but have always heard people say how much they loved it.

I'll cast another vote for 1900 Park Fare. Regarding omelette stations, that is my first stop at any breakfast buffet. We went to Crystal Palace last month, I would have to say that the omelette was the most pathetic thing I had ever seen: paper-thin egg wrapped around a couple pieces of ham, wasn't even hot enough to melt the cheese. I'm certainly not expecting spectacular at a WDW buffet, but it was first time I had been so disappointed by an omelette at WDW.

Thanks for all the replies. We've made an ADR at 1900 and we are looking forward to it. I can't wait to try the lobster eggs benedict and have a big bowl of the strawberry soup.
