How does breakfast and lunch work in relation to sitting in the MDR's? In my past two cruises (different cruise lines) we never ate breakfast or lunch in anything but the buffet area. If we choose to eat in the MDR's, is it assigned times like dinner? Can we choose which MDR we want to go to? Sailing on the Fantasy. Thanks.

Just show up whenever you want. They'll take your room number, mainly to see if you have any allergy issues, and you'll be seated. Rarely, if ever, will you get your regular servers or table.

I prefer breakfast and lunch in the MDR. More relaxed and less noisy.

Not all MDR's are open for breakfast and lunch. Check your Navigator for times because they are not open as long as Cabana's.

On the Fantasy, Royal Court is the restaurant that is usually open for a sit down breakfast and lunch during the cruise but the hours are limited, so make sure to check the Navigator. It's usually 8-9:30 for breakfast (sometimes sea days might be 8:30-10) and 12-1:30 for lunch.

My husband loves to take the kids to breakfast while I sleep. Much more laid back and relaxing. He usually ends up ordering a hot omelette exactly the way he likes.

I never used to visit the MDR's for lunch or breakfast but lately I have. I find I really enjoy the service and menus.

On your Navigator app or paper it will list which MDR's will be open for breakfast or lunch.

On the Magic/Wonder it is usually Lumiere's/Triton's open for breakfast or lunch.

The menus are smaller but interesting. At least lunch changes every day.

we love sit down breakfast and lunch. They typically do take more time, so if we have an early excursion or other activity we will go to Cabanas

I too prefer the MDR over the buffet or quick service for breakfast and lunch. I often talk to my assigned servers to see if they will be working breakfast or lunch in the MDR and request to be seated in their section. I like the quite time.

We used to go to the buffet for lunch and breakfast. We still typically do it for breakfast (larger selection IMO) but we now generally go to the MDRs for lunch. The menu changes every day, it's more leisurely, less chaotic and I think has better food selection. Note that you may not be sitting on your own. We've been placed at tables for 6 or 8. It can be a nice way to meet other people on the cruise. We've even ended up doing other activities with some of those people we've met or met them again on excursions which is nice.

We like to split it up and do both. If we're up by the pool, will go to Cabana's, but try to hit the sit-down restaurants once or twice too. They have a good selection and you don't have to fight the buffet crowds.

We often do the MDR for breakfast and/or lunch on a sea day or day with a late all ashore. I really like the hot food cooked to order just the way I want it ("can I get that but without onions" and so forth). Sometimes we go look at the menu and nothing strikes my fancy for lunch (breakfast tends to be the same, but lunch varies).

If we're in a hurry, we'll do Cabanas.
