We now know that Sebastian's is limiting rolls per table. However, in that thread it was mentioned that some restaurants no longer offer complimentary bread service or chips and salsa now. I'm curious - can others post their recent experiences at Disney restaurants?

I really am curious because sometimes you don't know whether to ask/order it if you want it or just wait for it to show up.

I went to La Hacienda de San Angel in May and chips and salsa were no longer complimentary. They were for an extra charge. Despite every single Mexican restaurant in my area still offering complimentary chips and salsa (with free refills whenever you wanted).

When we were at Jiko's in May, we were given complimentary homemade bread. Maybe that's because it's a signature restaurant, and complimentary bread will only be part of the signature experience.
BTW, OP, chips and salsa-unlimited-are at every Mexican restaurant in our area too (and that's a lot of Mexican restaurants since we're about 15 minutes from Mexico).

I think your mistake was trying Mexican food at Disney World. Kind of joking, but I don't think they do it well.

It was actually quite good TBH. I didn't want to eat there initially and wanted to do Rose & Crown instead but the friend that I went with hates British food so we went there instead. Chips/salsa not being free was annoying though.

Can confirm the same for San Angel Inn. Was there for Father's Day and had to pay. At least it came with queso and salsa for about the same price most Mexican restaurants charge for a small bowl of queso.

We were at Tiffins late last year and they did not offer any complementary bread. I'm not talking about the "bread service" that has always been a paid appetizer, but they used to offer a complementary bread as well. Nope. Though, in all fairness, we had probably the worst service we've ever received at a WDW restaurant - ever. So maybe our clueless waitress just forgot.

As others have mentioned, the free chips and salsa are gone from both TS restaurants in the Mexico pavilion. Also, when Steakhouse 71 opened it was pretty surprising that a steakhouse wouldn't offer some complementary bread. They do offer it as a paid appetizer though  .

If this is the trend I can only assume Le Cellier pretzel bread will become a pay for item in the near future if it isn’t already. They were already being stingy in the past when you would ask for an extra one to go.

Since DW is gluten free, we’re used to paying extra for GF bread service as well as GF sandwich bread or hamburger buns at most of the restaurants we frequent around home. Paying for bread service doesn’t surprise us at all, and I’m okay with doing it when the bread service provides something beyond a simple dinner roll and butter. Those I generally skip, but I will spend the calories and carbs on something decent.

Topolino's still had it earlier this week, as did Kona. Ale and Compass charged for bread in December, but it had some sort of spread.

Ale & Compass switched to paid bread service when it changed from Captain’s Grill to Ale & Compass, well before the shut down. They might have been one of the first places to charge.

Not sure who to blame for no more salsa at the Disney Mexican restaurants. None of them are owned by Disney so not sure Disney has any say in their day to day operating decisions

Funny too to say they don’t do Mexican well since the owners run restaurant’s in Mexico. It is not anything like Mexican food normally found in the US

We mobile ordered Tratoria al Forno to-go and our bag did not have bread originally, but they gave me complimentary bread and butter when I asked for it. The CM was really nice and very helpful. We were also given bread at California Grill, Garden Grill, Hoop Dee Doo Revue, and Topolino's (pastries). However, we weren't given bread at Cinderella's Royal Table and only kids received bread at Story Book Dining/Artist Point. Won't comment on Sebastian's because I think everyone on the Disboards now knows how that went down. :scared:

OP here (hi NOLA_Tink) - I'm glad that it sounds like it is pretty normal operations at most places. I had noticed that CRT didn't in May, but otherwise we had good experiences everywhere else. Still love the roasted garlic at the Yachtsman, even thought that overall meal on our last trip was the worst we'd ever had at WDW.

The worst?!? Yikes, that's never a good feeling. We've only mobile ordered (breakfast & dinner) from there because my son is hit-and-miss behaviorwise and I never want to torture other diners with his antics. Our order was missing a few things, but the food was good. Sorry to hear your experience wasn't the same.

Are you thinking of Ale & Compass? Yachtsman is a signature TS steakhouse. Dinner only
