Daughter's really wanting to do "something" with her hair. We iron it and it takes Forever.... need at least 4 hands to do it "right". She's almost 15 and I have the opportunity of getting a discount for this on livingsocial (ct area)... wonder which one would be "good for her" but also curious if it would eliminate having to iron it... looking for a lower maintance way of getting rid of the slight friz round the hairline and excess waviness...
TIA
Carolyn

I've been using the Coppola Keratin treatment for some time. I have it done in a salon.

My hair is incredibly thick, slightly curly and frizzy. I wear it shoulder length. Before the Keratin treatments, it would take 24 hours for my hair to dry naturally. Flat iron work would take well over an hour and although I could get it straight, it would never lay flat or look soft.

Now my hair dries faster. I wash it at night and let it dry naturally overnight and iron in the morning. Ironing takes me 15-20 minutes tops. I definitely still have to iron it. The natural look of my hair would still have a wave to it (not as curly) without frizz though. If I want it straight, it needs to be ironed.

The look of my hair after ironing is night and day different from what it looked like before when I ironed. My hair is soft, shiny and very straight.

my best friend had it done, and though it looked great (shiny and smooth) with her curly hair (and its really more of a wave) she def. had to iron it still. Not to mention, it didn't last that long. She said she would never do it again, because it wasn't worth the money. hope this helps :)

escova progressiva. Ask about that. But basically there are two types of treatment. One chains formaldahyde (which i can't spell) or ingredients that break down into formaldehyde when heated. It lasts longer and is less fragile.
The other types do not contain these ingredients. It doesn't last as long doesn't get as board straight and is less forgiving of things like the pool. Swimming caps can be purchased in all shorts of designs. :)
I'm having my next one done very early ish because my brazilian hairdresser is moving to new jersey. :(

Whichever you chose to do you can always ask to see the msds on the product at the salon.

i had the brazilian kertain treatment done the end of May. I have wavy hair - i use to have to always use the straightner on my hair! now i wash it and let it air dry or dry it quickly with the drier and no hot iron needed - no its not pin straight, but pretty straight and no frizz!

Thanks for the info.
Still on the fence for this one. There's the brazilian blowout, coppola keratin treatment etc... all so confusing and they're around $125-150 discounted... none of the places are that close by. Most of the places near want $300 and that's a bit steep, especially when we still might need to iron. Really don't want to have her have to wear a cap when swimming though she wouldn't be doing that much.
Right now she washes her hair about once a week with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. Then (if time allows) lets her hair airdry, then I (we - 4ish hands needed) iron (cook) highly oiling sections with the chi "oil". Boy does the hair "smoke" when I do a pass on it with the Chi but it's smooth, straight, slightly shiny (though not oily) but burning hot.
1 1/2 years ago she had her hair cut in NYC (donated it) and they put some kind of a lotion on it after washing and drying it... it smelled good and then they ironed it... it held the smooth anti-frizziness for about 3 months. Wish I was with her (they had discouraged my staying closeby ) and Libby didn't ask (she was only 13 then) what exactly they used on it (she's kind of shy).
Also the link to ABC didn't work. Did it say NOT to use the keratin?
THanks
Carolyn

Not really what you asked but as someone who has curly hair and fought it (ironed it, chemically straightened it, etc) for years and years, I had to chime in here.

I highly, highly recommend skipping the straightening treatments and getting an Ouidad haircut instead. THe first cut costs $150 and additional cuts are $100 but if you cut it shoulder length you really only need one cut per year. Ouidad stylists are certified specialists in curly hair. They make the curls look so nice and eliminate frizzing and make it so that all you have to do is wash your hair, run some gel through it and go. I put it off for years because of the cost but then I realized that one cut at $100/year is actually cheaper than every six weeks at $20/cut. :) And it's better for your hair because it's just a cut, no chemicals involved at all! Their slogan is "Iron clothes, not curls."

www.ouidad.com to find a stylist in your area... You said CT? I go to a guy in Cranston, RI if you are on that side of the state.

OP, I have a Brazilian Blowout and I will be doing it again, and again, and again. I absolutely love it. I have a friend who has very curly hair. Her curls are still there but she just has no frizz. She has been having it done for a little over a year. My hair is slightly wavy so if I want it perfectly straight I have to dry it and straighten with a brush. I usually just wash my hair and leave it alone. It has made a huge difference in my hair. 10 weeks and no frizz. We went to Disney 2 weeks after I had it done and zero frizz. Your daughter will have to use sulfate free hair products (I use brazilian blowouts own line) and she will have to avoid chlorine. I was advised not to wash my hair for 3 days after the treatment and to avoid washing it daily. I usually wash every other day. I have not broken out the Chi iron since the treatment. hope this helps.

Have no experience with the Brazillian Blowout, but as part of a family with tendency to naturally curly, frizzy hair (varies from waves and kinks to serious curls and frizz), the problem with any straightener is when the hair grows out. And ours does so very quickly! *eek* Within three to four weeks there is a significant difference between the new growth and the straightened hair.

Chemical straighteners might work well for someone with slower-growing hair. Unfortunately, not for us. Maintenance costs a fortune! :(

her hair grows out pretty darn fast... when she had the treatment lotion a year ago I think it just wore off...
I'm leaning towards the brazilian blowout but I really want to talk to the salon to find out if the room is really ventilated well. Not sure if the keratin is worth it since you have to be careful how you wash hair (non-sulfate) and other stuff... wonder how it reacts to salt water at the beach.. know Libby wouldn't want to use a swimming cap there...
Think we'll probably keep on ironing it... she's able to get away with just ironing, oiling it weekly... and lightly misting the stray "fuzz" in the AM before runining out for summer school.
Thanks
Carolyn
