Brain Freeze - How will this work with booking?

For some reason I can't remember if you can book more than 7 nights at a time or if it is just 7 nights?

I know I'm a bit early in my planning stages but looking at going December 18th-27th 2011. I plan on calling January 18th, 2011 to book but I think I can only book the 18th through 24th (checkout on 25th) and then I would have to call back on the 19th to book the night of the 25th and then call back on the 20th to book the night of the 26th?

I shouldn't need to "walk" a reservation and book earlier than the 18th should I? I haven't in the past when booking that time of the year but the booking rules did change since we have gone during Christmas, etc.

You can call on Jan 18th and book the first 7 nights. Then make one more call 2-3 days later to book the last two nights. Your original reservation has a hold on the room so as long as you call before Jan 24th you'll get the last two nights.

You don't say what you're trying to book but walking is rarely needed and I'd say it isn't necessary - especially if you never had a problem in the past for your reservation.

Kat,
I'm assuming that when they make the reservation, they need to mention that they want through the 26th, correct? Otherwise how would (or why) would MS hold additional nights (or know how many nights to hold)?

No, the hold is on the room until the 24th. As long as they call back prior to then, they are basically guaranteed to book additional nights.

The room can not be added back into available inventory for booking until the 11 month mark from the last day of the original reservation. This fact is why "walking a reservation" works, so it would also work in the case of a simple extension.

No - as Chuck mentioned the room can't be booked by anyone else until the OP vacated it - which is on the morning of the 25th. This is because of the new booking rule which allows you to book from the start of your stay for up to 7 nights. So as long as the OP called before that date (the 25th) is available for someone else to book then they can extend the room. And it won't be linked either - MS will just change the end date which is nice.

Anyone else calling in for the same room type prior to the 25th will have to have their own room available for the stay and that's the room they'd be booked for their entire stay.

Mentioning you want to extend can't help b/c it can't be booked at the time of the initial call and they don't hold rooms.

Thanks for the responses - I forgot to mention (and I notice someone asked) but its for a 2-bedroom at VWL.

IMO, you do not need to walk that particular reservation.

can someone explain what walking your reservation is ?

It is when you call at an 11 month mark that is really prior to when you want to stay to secure a room. Then, you call back and adjust the dates forward to get the actual dates you want.

For example, you want to stay at BLT, in a MK view room from Dec. 24 - January 1st. Your 11 month window would open on Jan. 24th. But, because your trip includes NYE, a busy night, you decide to walk the reservation.

You call on Jan. 17th instead and book, Dec. 17th - Dec. 24th. You can call back on Jan. 23rd and cancel out the beginning nights, and extend your trip out to include the 30th. Then, you call back on the 29th, and extend your trip for the last night.

Since you have called and reserved that room right at 11 months, no one else can book it until you check out. As long as you call and add those new nights prior to the 11 month window for the check out day, you are guaranteed the room.

Thanks Sandi ,
I think i get it -that would work nice for those extreme important busy days -
