Braces.

About a week ago I went to the orthodontist and they took x-rays and molds of my mouth. In about 2 weeks I am going back and he is going to say if I need braces or what the deal is. I have a pretty good feeling that I will need to get braces. My mom,dad, and sister have all had them. Does anyone here have them? How is it the first week?

I had them. They hurt for a couple of days and then when you get them tightened but you get used to it quickly. They aren't that bad.

the first week is painful.
but it wasnt much for me since ive had to have two tongue surguries, 8 teeth pulled [without novacaine] and braces. i couldnt really eat much except soup for awhile cause it hurt when i bit down but after that its a piece of cake. except when you get your braces tightened .. then it hurts. but only for a day, and the pain is nothing like the first week of braces.

piece of advice... if you get braces take a pain killer [ tylonel (sp?), advil, motrin whatever. ] like 30-45 minutes before you go get them and then it wont be that bad. if you get them also do that before you get your braces tightened because it really helps.

UGH i hated that first week your mouth throbs like crazy
it sucks having to sit there when everyone is eating and your picking something out of your braces xD

but afterwards you will be so happy with the results they are worth it

It's so nasty. My parents sit there and suck there teeth for like 10 min. ewwww. Then when we go to disney or something... my mom gos to the bathroom and brushes her teeth.

My friend just got them...I should probably have them but.
She wanted them so bad and could'nt wait. Afterwards she complained abou how much they hurt. That was about the first week. She doesn't complain anymore. She seems ok with it.

i never had any orthodotic work, i didn't need any.
but all my siblings have had braces (or have them now), and they get a bunch of milkshakes the first couple of days.
so it's not all bad

I got braces in April, taking them of in September. Only the first day hurt, but I couldn't eat pretty much anything but liquid and really soft stuff for the first 5 days.

Have them. It hurts the first week but then very quickly it's like "Oh that's right! I have braces!"

I've had mine for like.. four weeks.
The first day, it didn't bug me. They didn't hurt, I could chew.
The next days were hell.
I couldn't chew anything (but I chewed anyways) and my mouth was being cut apart.
All that happens now, is that when I wake up, my braces are stuck to the inside front of my mouth (top braces stuck to the bottom inside of mouth), and it hurts.
The inside of my front teeth hurt too.

hmm, I just realized that this is my first time going to Disney with braces! lol.
But yea, like everyone else said, they do hurt the first week,and hurt when you get them tightened.But you'll get used to them, sometimes, you wont even realize that they're there!And the colored bands, those are always cool!

They aren't that bad. At least, not for me. Sure, they get sore. I would be lying if I told you they didn't. But they aren't as terrible as some people make them out to be.

I have had them since November. They aren't that bad . The first few days/week are the most painful though. You get used to them very quickly.

i have braces but you should not be to afraid because after a while they become like a part of you (you dont really notice them after a while) the first week is pretty bad but it doest hurt to much to get them an and off ( i have also had the feeling of getting them off because they have taken some of mine off and putting them back on to reposition them)but after the work has been done on your teeth, that is when it hurts. dont be afraid because after you will have great teeth after. i still have about a year to go

Mine hurt for four days when I got them on.
It's not that bad. Take some pain killers before you get them on.

I've had my braces for four years.
The first week is the worst because they hurt a lot, and you're getting used to having a bunch of metal in your mouth. It feels weird at first, but soon you'll be forgeting you even have them. The tightenings suck for a few days, but after that they're fine. When I first got my braces on, my mom bought me a whole quart of vanilla ice cream from dairy queen. That made them hurt a little less.
