Bra vent

I agree with a professional fitting. I had one finally a year and a half ago (having had 3 kids I noticed, well, things had changed) and it was really amazing. Not only did the woman fit me (this was at VS), but she also recommended particular bras based on my particular shape. so even though other styles came in my size, they might not be the best choice for me.

not all fitters are equal, there are bad fitters out there. maybe call and find out who is the best/has the most experience?

Again, not neccesarily. It could be that you need a more full coverage bra or dofferent cup shape. I can't wear a demi-bra without the girls falling out, but the same cup in a full coverage model fits great.

ITA.
I actually went to my last fitting thinking my size went up because my new bra wasn't fitting me anymore. Nope. Dropped a band size and kept the same cup size- the problem was that bra was not good for my body type. That's why it's so important to try the bra on before you buy it. I do that and then buy more online through penney's or onehanesplace.com

Well at my size, you couldn't pay me to wear a demi. As I mentioned in my first post, just because they make a particular style in that size, doesn't mean you should wear it. And it's also why I mentioned that style is just as important as size. The purpose of a demi is actually to enhance and believe me, at this size, I don't need to enhance anything. I just need to corral it.

I am also large-chested and I don't like Lane Bryant's bras at all, I've never found one that worked for me. Ditto Victoria's Secret. OP, I know there's no way in heck I could ever find a decent bra at Kmart/Walmart/Target. Cheap bras just aren't made of the right materials to provide serious support.

With a well-fitting bra, the band should be snug (the band should be doing the work of holding the girls up, NOT the straps). The middle part should be flat against your chest--you said it was going forward, which usually indicates the cup size is too small.

I totally agree with everyone that recommended seeing a professional fitter. And I know it's painful, but spending more on a bra can make all the difference in the world. Once you find a bra you like though, sometimes if you search on the Internet you can find good deals. I've also found good deals at Nordstrom Rack (their outlet store). I've picked up $60-$70 bras in there for $20, and they are worth it!

We dont have a Nordstrom's in my area, but my mil went to a local shop that specializes in working with Breast cancer victims. She got her proper fitting and has been happy ever since.

How does anyone find a bra that fits them? I just can't seem to find one.

A few months ago I begrudginly went to Lane Bryant (I need a large band and a large cup) finally resigned to the fact that I might have to buy expensive bras to find ones that fit. I picked the one that seemed to be best (which was one band size and one cup larger than what I had been wearing) and then after wearing the bras a few days I started being bothered by the underwires. They kept poking my underarms. I guess that means the bra is too big? :confused3 But at the same time, I can never find a bra in which the front part in between the cups lies flat against my chest and this one is no exception; I always have cleavage which is pushing that part of the bra out. Doesn't that mean that the bra is too small? :confused3 How can a bra be too small and too big?

After I couldn't stand those bras anymore and was ticked that I'd spent so much money on them, I went back to buying cheap ones at Kmart. The largest these bras come is one band size and one cup size too small. They definitely don't fit well--the underwire pokes into my breast because the cup isn't large enough and there's the whole cleavage pushing out the front--but they were tolerable for awhile too. Now I'm fed up with those too.

I was thinking of going to Lane Bryant again, and GF and I just took measurements thinking that would be helpful. Well it's anything but helpful! I found two different methods of calculating band/cup size. According to the 1st method you measure around the ribs under the breasts and add 5 to that number; the result is your band size. You then measure around the fullest part of your chest and take that number minus the band size. If you get a 1 you're an A, 2 for B, 3 for C, etc. Well according to this method of measuring I should be wearing a C up in a band size about 3-4 sizes larger than what I usually wear. There is no way in h*ll that I could get into a C cup, even accounting for the fact that as band sizes go up cups get a bit bigger. (According to this measurement GF's band size is about 6 sizes larger than what she wears and she would be an A or less, when really she's definitely in at least the B range.

According to the other method of measuring (I saw this specifically about plus size women) everything is the same except you don't add 5 to the rib cage measurement to get the band size; whatever the measurement is around the ribs under the breast, that is your band size. According to this method I am almost exactly the size of the original Lane Bryant bra I mentioned. But that bra doesn't fit  It's both too big and too small! (On this measurement GF is a D or more!)

So what gives? How is a woman (especially one with big ****s) supposed to find a bra that actually fits? Anybody have any tips?

If you are going to go lane bryant check the thread on the budget board, I got 4 bras and 6 undies for $27.00 shipped. These were the 30.00 bras.

I hear ya! I walked into VS a few months ago (I wear their Ipex underwire full coverage style) and the girl tried to talk me unto a push-up. Uh, no thanks, I don't need to minimize, but I sure don't need to stick those girls out anymore than they already are! :rotfl:
