Boys in girls bathroom

My guess is that the parents that have their undies in a twist over this incident don't have boys.

For what it's worth, I only have a girl, and I think this was harmless as long as they weren't looking into stalls.

I seriously think some on here have truly forgotten what it is like to be a kid!

In this day and age of kids doing truly horrible things, I find some boys doing an age old dare refreshing.

OK...I was just sharing some of these comments with my SIL and I found out one of the boys was found locked in the stalls. He claimed he went in there to hide when he heard the law coming and didnt wanna get busted. I can't remember if she said he got 2 days or the same as the others???

My nephew and a few of his friends had this stupid conversation that lead to a bet at school as to if the girls room had mirrors in the bathroom.

Surprise. They got caught. They all got a one day in school suspension.

Some of the girls' parents are livid and think it should be much longer.

Some of the boys' parents on the other hand think it was a silly prank and it's not like they went into the stalls. One even is taking the line that if the teachers were doing their jobs instead of 'just handing out condoms' they wouldn't be all sexed up and would know the answer to such a stupid question without having to go in the room.

I'll agree with the others and say this had nothing to do with mirrors, but it was still just a harmless prank. I don't have a problem with the punishment given.

I was going to comment on the bolded because I thought that one of the boys had said it. Now that I see it was actually a parent, there are no words. Well except I think that parent may be an idiot.

Okay, missed they were 13. That is a tad old to be bathroom spying, but not sure the punishment fit the crime. But I do think they were old enough to know a bit better.

Actually I think 13 year old boys are pretty prime age for this...yes, they know better which is why it was a dare to begin with.

I agree, we have forgotten what it was like to be a kid. When we were kids the boys probably would have gotten cuffed in the head by the principal, told to stop being stupid and to apologize to any of the girls in the bathroom at the time, end of story (then they would have reported back to their friends that yes, Suzi DOES have pink underwear on) :lmao:

Reading through does make me wonder if it would be the other way around too.

If girls got caught doing the exact same thing would the parents be as upset?

In reality, I think it would be worse for a girl going into a boy's bathroom because in the girl's bathroom there are only stalls.

At least they didn't say "Oops, I went into the wrong one" -- which could actually have been the truth! I did that and it was the guy's LOCKER ROOM!! Not even just a bathroom. Luckily, there was a long hall before you got to the changing area & I caught myself about 1/2 down. The school I went to basically was mirror imaged set-up and the locker room was at the end of the hall....I happen to be talking to my brother after school, so I was going down a different hall, just automatically went into the locker room door at the end of the hall (my brother already left & didn't do sports, so it wasn't like I followed him). I did one of those "wait this looks weird" since everything was on the opposite side but just kept on walking thinking "that's odd" and actually even went PAST the teachers area, then stopped as soon as my brain kicked in of this can't be right & what I did PLUS I heard guys talking!!!! Luckily, no one caught me or who knows if they would have believed me! NOW, flip this around if it had been my brother who went into the wrong one and done the same thing. I think people would have been ready to lock him up.

Honestly, this is a victimless prank and should be treated as such. This is not some sexual assault.

Just because no girl was in the bathroom when they did it doesn't mean it should be treated as a victimless prank... They didn't know if there would be a girl in the bathroom and it should be treated as if they were trying to be peeping toms... if I shoot a gun into a crowd and it doesn't happen to actually hit anyone it isn't a victimless crime because it could have easily killed someone... same thing applies to this "boys"... too often the "boys will be boys" line is used and things escalate, nail them with some heavy penalty now and you wont have any issues later... let it slide and you'll see more problems later.

So do you think not punishing them would result in them eventually sexually harassing a girl, or a woman when they are older? what issues do you mean?

It was a prank with no victims, which makes it a victimless prank.

Even if the bathroom had been packed with girls, there would have been no victims. Not sure how anyone could think otherwise. :confused3

I would feel the same if it were a bunch of girls in the boys bathroom as well. I think if they were not punished that others would think it would be okay to do as well. I'm not sure I agree with the level of punishment but I definitely think punishment is in order.

I think their punishment was appropriate.

People get too worked up over these things. Some people just are anger junkies, I think and like to get riled up over something.

You are right. The idea that if left unpunished these boys will grow up to be predators on the prowl is kind of overkill to the max in my book.

I think we are very hypersensitive to this stuff and in the end, being so sensitive has done nothing to keep our kids safer or prevent stuff like this or more importantly really scary stuff from happening.

They are junior high aged boys doing what most boys do and they just happened to get caught.

If it was my kid, I'd abide by the punishment and not make a big deal out of it with the school, have a talk with my kid and let it blow over.

I am sorry but the idea this prank (and I am sorry that is what it was) is on the same level as shooting a gun into a crowd is quite the leap.

Well, depending on how old the boys were, after reading all the boys in the womens bathroom threads on here, they could pretty much use the excuse that my mother always makes me use the womens restroom when we go out and I just got confused! If they are under the age of 13, that should work for them after reading the DIS!

:thumbsup2

They didn't go in there to see mirrors. As we have learned on the DIS the chance of getting raped if you go into the men's room alone is hovering between 99.9998% and 99.9999% so they were just trying to be safe. You know, like mother insists.

Really, I think every boy around 5th grade or so tries to sneak into the girls bathroom just to say they did it. If they are hiding in a stall with a Chloroform covered rag it's one thing. A quick run in and back out is something else. You have to be kind of an idiot to get caught though. It sounds like pretty normal middle school boy behavior to me.

 God, Frank.

It seems like EVERYTHING these days is a HUGE deal and has to have a MAJOR punishment. It's just crazy. If you make a huge deal over little things like this you take away the severity of the REALLY big things. If you get suspended for looking at mirrors in the girls bathroom and for bringing a gun to school, all of the sudden the gun isn't any worse then peeking in a bathroom...what kind of message is that :scared1:.

Oh, I know. I was just saying that as an outsider who doesn't have boys, it wouldn't have gotten me all worked up.

I have two middle school girls who would probably have had a lot to say about boys being in the girls' bathroom. But they would not have freaked out, and would have thought getting caught and a detention would be an appropriate punishment.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. They could have gotten an eye full (well, not "full" per se ;)) in the boy's room or maybe not, but it had the possibility of being a much more revealing situation than the girl's room.

I'm sure the girls involved would at least be labeled boy-crazy in additon to the school's punishment. But for boys, they're just "being boys!".

Knowing my DD she would have gone up to the boys and told them to stop being stupid and then would have announced to every class the rest of the day that Johnny and Jimmy were in the girls bathroom--public shame is a good thing :lmao:.
