Boys and Stuffed Animals.....opinions!!

My boys 13 & 14 both still have their stuffed animals & still love to receive & or buy them.

On our trip to DL last September DS 13 bought 2 Dalmatians to add to his collection. He collects Damatians, stuffed, ceramic, plastic you name it, he has a room full of them.

DS14 bought a big Mickey & sine coming home & visiting our now obsolete Dis store, they have bought more stuffeed animals for their rooms.

6 is not too old, he's still a little guy yet & needs his stuffed buddies.

In time he may or may not grow out of wanting them, but for the time being enjoy it & let him enjoy it too. They are cute & cuddly & often times are just like a family member.

The Dalmatians around here sure are...................they get covered up on the top bunk at night & cuddled every morning & even brought to the breakfast table at times.

My DS is 15. He still has stuffed animals, but most of them have moved into his closet. I wouldn't dream of asking him to get rid of them. They are an important part of his past and many of them are precious to him.

I also say let him have his stuffed animals. DS (8) still has stuffed animals in his bed and cuddles them when he goes off to sleep. It is a comfort and he should not be made to feel bad.

To put it politely I think your DH needs to get a grip!! My middle DS is 10 and still has two big teddy bears on his bed and still plays with all his beanie babies. Oldest DS is 12 and still has a stuffed dinosaur on his bed that his Aunt gave him and he loves. In fact I just said a few weeks ago -- I can pack this away right? Figuring he would say yes, and he said nooooooooooo! So I guess I won't touch that one with a ten foot pole until he went to college.

My middle DS decided he liked nail polish when he was in preschool - we called them monster nails, so I painted them all different colors, he grew out of it. Oldest DS went through a phase when he was in 2nd grade that he loved playing with all his sister's Barbies, took them all in his room, dressed them and even asked me for a Ken doll. I have to admit DH got a little concerned but I said leave it alone, he will outgrow it and he did. He also had a Simba that he dragged around with until the age of 10.

I'm 36 and still own stuffed animals. I bought a Figment from WDW a few years ago to my DW's great amusement. Our kids have now confiscated them as their own now however. I don't keep them in bed with me anymore - I traded them for DW a few years ago. She's much more cuddly.

LoL! I've struggled with this...and many other manly issues. I think it builds character and self esteem if children can do what they wish while withstanding peer pressure. You WANT to teach them to think for themselves, before bigger issues start rearing their ugly heads. Let's face it, stuffed animals could be the least of your problems someday.

MY 12 year old has Mrs. Goose and Mr. Duckie, which have been to school and to friends houses. He bought Duckie for himself at the school's holiday gift shop. Both my boys have build a bears and Disney stuffed animals - they hang out in their beds most of the time.

Your son is so young still - enjoy the time. As he gets older, the stuffed animals will stay mostly in his room. Soon enough you'll be complaining about his attitude, talking back etc. etc.

My DS (12) has a ton of stuffed animals. Various sizes and characters. He sleeps with several of them. He doesn't mind if his friends see them. When we've done the cleaning out of the room once a year of toys he doesn't play with, I've always tried to put a few in because there is so many and he won't hear of it. He wants to keep then all! He still has his baby blanket. I see nothing wrong with it either. He will decide when it's time. Also, my DB who is 21 still has some stuffed anilmals and would never get rid of them.

Kallison ~ My son also has gone through the stage with his older sisters nail polish on several occasions. I have also found him to have her glitter on too. When he was little, my DD would dress him up in her dresses, a very funny site.

Well I'm a man, and I think it's unmanly to take away a little boy's stuffed animals because of some outdated "macho" neurosis. . .


I'm sure your husband intentions are good, but that's just ridiculous. . . let your little boy keep his stuffed animals as long as he wants, and tell him to beat the heck out of any other kid that teases him over it. . now that's manly!!

I would be more worried if he showed no interest in stuffed animals! My teenage nephews have lots of stuffed animals, so does my 20 year old nephew.
