DS (6) is on his third pair of sneakers since school started in August and I wondered how typical this is. I am tired of shelling out $30-40 for sneakers every 6 weeks, give or take. The last few pairs have been Nike and he outgrew one, but the other two he wore out. I've also tried Reebok in the past too. When we lived in the US I tried buying him cheaper sneakers from PayLess, but they fell apart even faster. I know I can't do anything about his foot growing, but I would like to find some shoes that he can get a little more wear out of and I don't mind spending the $30-40 if they will last a bit.

What kind of sneaks do your kids wear and do you find they wear well?

DS 5 has been in the same pair of Sketchers since school started, and I am very happy with how they are holding up.

Kids shoes bug me. DS had a pair from Payless. The soles literally fell off them and were attached at the back of the heel only. I took them back. After a fight with the guy, they gave me another pair of the same style and size. So far so good. Does anyone remember the days when shoes were SEWN together! Glue doesn't cut it.

Debbi,
When my now 14 yr. old DS was your son's age, we had the same exact problem with Nikes! It was 3-4 pairs of sneakers a year! We switched over to Adidas and they last for the entire year.

For the past 2.5 years, DS has been wearing hiking boots every day, except for gym class. He's a Scout and does a lot of walking/hiking. We pay around $100.00 a pair for the boots, but they last the entire year (he's growing and outgrows the boots before they're worn out).

My DS6 has a pair of Reeboks that have held up pretty well. He also has a pair of Spiderman velcro shoes from Target that he just HAD to have & surprisingly enough they are holding up quite well too. I just bought him some hiking boots and I figure that if he switches back & forth between pairs they'll all last longer.

My DS is 8 and tough on sneakers. I buy them from payless and they seem to last a while. I have another problem - DS REFUSES to learn how to tie laces so I have to find slip-ons. Not so easy. I end up having to go to several PL stores to find some in his size...lazy kid!

Yikes! How did he get past learning in school? DS's kindergarten class was REQUIRED to learn. They did it in class. Hmmm...looks like I was pretty lucky with that!

Pin Wizard - when my son decides that he doesn't want to do something then it is real difficult to persuade him otherwise! His kindergarten teacher was amazed that he just refused to learn! (he never dressed for halloween, wouldn't participate in pajama day...etc.) I found out how he got through school when he had laces. One day I went to pick him up and he had one of the other kids tying his shoes! I heard that he had several boys who would do that for him! Sheesh...
