yeahhhh

not what I thought it was

Reminds me of when I went to London for a semester in college and thinking that boxing day was a day when there were lots of boxing tournaments going on! Wrong! :rotfl2:

If I remember correctly, it's the day when people box up all of their unwanted or no longer needed items and give them to the needy. It is a holiday where most people are off from work.

It's the day after Christmas. The holiday is celebrated mostly in England and their former colonies, us excluded. It is one of my favorite days of the year because it is a big day for soccer in England and usually involves me sitting down and watching 3 or 4 matches.

Can't wait (provided they learn to deal with snow by then and the games go on) :thumbsup2

In the old days, it was also the day when churches distributed the charitable contributions that had been left in the "Poor Box" at the rear of the church. (Now, of course, the box is emptied daily, and the charitable distributions are year-round.)

In Ireland it is also known as St. Stephen's Day (kind of depends on whether you are Protestant or Catholic). In the country the traditional celebration was a bit like trick-or-treating for grownups; the "Wren Boys" went house to house looking for money for a drinking fund. (Modern versions of the collection are usually done for charity.)
