Hey

Was wondering if anyone can help.
I bought some pins off ebay...some for me and some for my friend.
I ordered two the same
When they arrived i looked at them next to each other and the colour in the background is different in each
I was wondering if this is normal or whether they may not be real?
Just a little clueless
The pin is:
http://www.pinpics.com/cgi-bin/group.cgi?group=2665&pin=51790

1) the first one is pink background and the scarf is quite a dark purple
2) this one the background is more purple and the scarf is not as dark

Both are stamped with official pin trading 2007 and have black minnie heads.

Its really worried me know...will try and take a picture and upload it

PinPics description of that pin states that it is being illegally manufactured and sold to people not affiliated with Disney. That is where the term "scrappers" comes in. My guess is that unless you purchased one from Disney on a card, they are probably both fakes. Did you buy them from the same or different sellers? If you bought them from different sellers, I guess one could be authentic, but my guess is still that they are scrappers.

A lot of collectors are committed to not purchasing and trading scrappers to try and discourage the illegal manufacture of the pins to begin with. You can always tell the seller(s) that you suspect the pins are not authentic and request a refund. There is a long thread on this board regarding fake pins and good/bad sellers of pins. Go through it and you will get some valuable information.

Good luck.

I do not think these would have been on the card to begin with. I think they are Hidden Mickey pins from Disneyland.

I have found that a lot of the scrappers lately are the ones used by CMs to trade, I guess because they have mass production to begin with. A LE300 is very hard to run a second run since if I was Disney, I would take the master plate with me once the 300 + APs, etc are minted.

You are right. It is a HM pin. I didn't realize that. PinPics states that you would have had to trade for this pin as it was NOT available for purchase. Which in turn means that it also did not have a card back. Also, PinPics states that it was not a limited edition. That being said, I would still lean toward the fact that the are scrappers.

And, actually, pins that are known LIMITED EDITIONS are the most often faked because they are believed to be more rare and the sellers charge more money for them. Maybe Disney will in the future require the mold so it can be destroyed, but as I understand it, that is not a procedure at this time. I guess next the fake makers will learn how to make their own molds! UGH!

This sure does cut down on the fun part!

Thankyou...i think i may email the seller....its so hard as i dont know how i would ever know if they are scrappers.
I dont want to kick up a fuss on ebay i think i might just leave it and just keep the pins.
Such a shame people do this...when i go to disney how would i know if they are real or not?
Sorry for all the questions

There are a few ways to tell if they are real/fake but to be honest it is not that easy. Disney just started stamping the backs of the pins with mickey heads and the real pins have perfectly cut mickey heads - like they came off a sheet of them - the counterfeits have the stampling applied after production so the entire pin has a border. I wrote a lenghty article on this on another board along with pics - email me and I'll send you the link.

Decided to take them into a disney store to let a cm have a look for me....was shocked when she said they are fine.....she was happy to trade to...she said it was only a slight difference in colour which could of been down to sun and also when they were made.
I traded to pins with her too!
