Bought Points Question

I bought points from another DVCer for a week long trip in June 2010. Since the owner of the points made the ressie, even though it is in my name, I assume I cannot call MS and make dining reservations, special requests, etc. under the reservation number, since the number is not tied to my DVC Member Number. Is this correct?

Can the primary owner of the points call MS and assign the ressie # to my member # so I can do the above, as well as, get the free DVC Internet access, etc?

Thanks

Huh?

You rented a reservation, you didn't buy points.

The member who placed the reservation will have to make arraignments for DDP, DME and special requests.

You can make your own ADR's, celebration requests, and on-line check in using the reservation number.

You will get free wired internet access.

You can not contact MS about this reservation and there is no assigning the number to your account. If you had transfered the points into your account instead of renting a reservation, then you would have control of the points.

The member that you rented from should have explained all of this to you. That is what you are paying them for.

Correct, even though you are a DVC member, the points used for this reservation aren't your points. So you are just like a non-member renting a reservation from a member. You can't talk to MS about this reservation for any reason.

I got the answer I thought, but just to clarify. I did buy the points from another member and they made the reservation.

Thanks

Are you telling us that you bought the other members points and passed ROFR and closed escrow, and now the contract and points are in your account?

Or did you rent a reservation from the other owner?

I think we just have some terminology confusion here. Usually when someone says they bought points from another member, that would mean one of two things: 1) they bought another member's DVC contract or 2) they paid another member to transfer points from the other member's account into their own DVC account. In both of these cases, the points would belong to the receiving member who would then make their own reservation.

If you pay another member to make a reservation for you using their points, that is usually described as renting points though in actual fact you don't really rent points you rent a reservation. And because a rented reservation belongs to the member who owns the points used for the reservation, the renter cannot get any info from MS about the reservation or set up DME for that reservation or purchase the dining plan for that reservation. Any/all of those things would need to be done by the member who owns that reservation. The reservation cannot be transferred to another member either so your only option is to contact the member from whom you rented and ask them to take care of these things on your behalf.
