Bought a resale contract in January; can I transfer points in?

We are new DVC members (yay!) via a resale contract that closed in January.

I would like to purchase some additional points from another member and transfer them in sometime in the next couple months.

But I was just reading up on the process, and came across a tidbit that made it sound as though the resale purchase was considered a transfer, which wouldn't make us eligible for a transfer until 2018.

Can anybody shed any light? I tried searching but wasn't finding a match for my question.

No, the reaale is not a points transfer. You can transfer in should you wish.
