Bottom Fishing on Castaway Cay:

Anyone done this lately:

How as it? was it organized well? Catch anything?

Thanks

Jim

Jim, my DS and DH did this on the 10/11/03 cruise. It was very well organized and they had a ball. DS caught 10 fish (grouper and trigger fish) DH caught 9 (same type). They also saw a baracuda who stole a hooked fish off the line (cut in half really) before it could be brought on board the boat.
They had the same captain (Capt. Patrick) as last year (who said he remembered them from the previous year).
DH said everyone on the trip caught at least a few fish and everyone seemed to have a nice time. The equipment was in excellent condition, and the crew was helpful and pleasant.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

I love to fish! We fish year round in the Chesapeake Bay, and I plan to do the bottom fishing at CC when we go on our first cruise next summer (July 11-15, Wonder). How far from CC is the fishing area? What type/size boat do you go in? I can't wait! Thanks!

Rellingtwin:

thanks for the scoop.

everyone on the trip caught at least a few fish
Now that's a fishing report I like to hear!

Spectromagic:

Nothing beats a "day on the bay" fishing!

Ask my "little friend" I'm holding.

Jim

Relling,

Couple more questions:

1. What time did they go out?

2. About how far out did they go (minutes, could they see the island?)

3. Did the crew on the boat keep all the fish?

4. How much did you tip the crew, if anything (Sorry to get personal, but if I don't ask, I won't know).

5. How big were their smiles when they came back?

Thanks a bunch.

Jim

Jim, I just looked at the Disney cruise site to get a price for this - don't know what DH's thoughts are about the fly fishing yet - Rellingtwin's report looks great, but this is not listed on the excursions for Castaway Cay - was it when you booked?

I need to get personal too - and ask how much it is -- thanks!

Bon

Jim, I like the friend you're holding--nice fish. My DH, adult DS, and I were on the bay last Sat. & Sun. fishing for stripers just like the one you're holding.

I, too, looked on DCL web site tonight, and the bottom fishing excursion wasn't listed. I think (but I'm not completely sure) I read about the bottom fishing excursion in the PassPorter book (Cruise Line edition), and I think it was listed as $110 per person. That's the main excursion I want to do, so I've been telling my family to give me $$ for Xmas, so I can enjoy our cruise. I hope the fishing will still be offered next summer. In the mean time, Chesapeake Bay stripers (rock fish) will have to do.

Hello my husband will be doing this on our christmas cruise(Wonder) and we did not know anything about it untill Disney sent us an excursion list this past Monday. Cost is $110 for 3 to 3 1/2 hours they have two trips per day 9:00am or 1:00pm I called the day after we got our excursion list and the 9:00am was sold out. My husband is on the 1:00pm trip. You can call 60 days before you sail and if I were you I would mark your day timer and call because it sells out fast. Also this trip will be carged to your key to the world or better yet if the ship caint dock at Castaway Cay you wont be charged. I was told that we can check to see if a 9:00am slot opens up but chances are slim they said.:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :yo-yo:

Bonnie,

This used to be in the list, but it was stopped temporarily because of "vendor problems". It was listed as $110 then, and Spectromagic confirms that.

It still is not on the list on the web, But I had called to confirm it was being run again and it was.

I called at 7:59:59am on the morning of the 60th day to get it.

I'm not saying I would be crushed If I couldn't go, but I am saying I'll be happier If I Can. I'll be even happier If I catch something (I have this philosophy: I expect to catch nothing and am happy just being on the water.)

Went fishing for Rock (Stripers) the other day. Our boat caught zippo! My brother was out the same day, only about 10 miles south and by 11 am his boat had limited out with 13 keepers and threw back 5 over 28 inches.

Oh well. Someone else's turn that day.

Come on Bonnie, get your husband to go with me. FIshing in the bahamas... how fun is that?!?

Jim

The fishing trip was NOT available when we were at the 60 day mark. I called and was told it was going to be available but it was unclear WHEN this would happen. Since my DH had his heart set on this trip, I faxed my request to DCL everyday for about 2 weeks (beginning on the 1st day of the 60 day mark). Then one day I got a confimation! I called to be sure before I told DS.

Jim...answers to your questions:
1. They meet at "Marge's Barges" at 9am

2. It tooK 10-15 min to get to the 1st place, they fished a total of 4 spots, moving to a different area when the fish quit bitting.DH says a total of 30 min. spent with the engines running, the rest of the time was "fishing time".

3. All the fish were released.

4. DH tipped $20.00 for him and DS. He said most of the other fisherman tipped about the same ($10.00 per person)

5. BIG SMILES from both of them! They want to do it again next trip.DH forgot to bring a camera!!!!

spectromagic fan questions:
DH thinks the boat was a MAKO 24-26 feet center counsol, with twin Everude 250s.

Grumpy's Mom's question:
110.00 for the 3 1/2 hour trip plus tip. All equipment, bait, ect was included. The crew cut the bait, baited the hooks (if you wanted them to) took fish off the hook, ect. DH says all you HAD to do was cast! Of course DH and DS chose to do most of the stuff themselves. Beverages were also included in the cost (soft drinks and water)

Jim - okay, okay, okay - I told him about the barracuda and that did it!!

He wants to go -- but now the problem is whether or not there will be a spot open - I assume you are going in the AM, as parasailing is in the pm??

I will call tomorrow morning at 7:00 something - I thought they didn't open until 9:00???

Let me know if I am wrong about your time -- he did reiterate that 6:30 would have been a lot of fun - but hoped that we would see you guys plenty during the week-

Relling,

Thanks so much for the help. It sounds great.

Bonnie,

I am going on the 9am trip. The Res. ofc opens at 8am e.s.t. I called at the time and left for the college immediately after.

I went fishing out of Port Canaveral before, and a 'cuda bit off the back of a fish in mid fight. I've never seen anything like it. It was SO COOL!

It'll be good "Guy Time".

If he can't get on the list, try try again.
