I know we are allowed to bring a bottle of alcohol if we pack it in our suitcase, but I don't want it to break and make a mess. Any suggestions? We now have soft suitcases but thinking of buying those new harder side suitcases. Will that help?

Thete are containers that you can buy that are specifically for this purpose. We've never used one. DH usually has a bottle of scotch in his suitcase. He just double bags it in a couple of grocery bags (in case of breakage) and then wraps it in a few of his t shirts and puts it in the middle of the suitcase with clothes under and over it. 30 years and never a casualty.

You can decant it into a leakproof bottle as well, something like a Nalgene (test first before you bring it!) or one of the designed for travel flasks. Wrap it into the center of your luggage, and you're better off with a soft sided than a hard sided unless you get a Pelican.

OK, thanks for the great advice. We have a few bottles of grey goose and I know they are definitely not plastic, maybe I should just buy a plastic bottle.

The original bottles will survive airline handling if you put them in a plastic bad and then pad them with something. I've flown with dozens of bottles of wine of the years in both Styrofoam wine shippers to just wrapping them in dirty laundry with no problems, ever.

I agree, glass bottles are fine so long as you wrap them in your clothes and have them in plastic bags (just in case). I wouldn't decant them into anything else as you never know if it might taint the flavours.

Wrap the bottle, plastic or glass, in a towel, then in bubble wrap. Put it in a zip-loc Baggie. Then in a second Baggie. I have actually put my Grey Goose in Dasani water bottles!!
