Random question coming up! I've been reading a lot about not relying on drink stops too much so am thinking about how to carry water. Would i feel silly with a small drinks belt for the 15km? Is that a little OTT? Thanks :goodvibes

I've seen plenty of people with fuel belts in a 5K! Do whatever makes you comfortable.

I always run with my water belt now - there was one run last summer that I went out without it and it was hot and I finally walked the rest of the way to a park that had a drinking fountain, but I swore that I'd never be thirsty again!

I was recently the ONLY person with a water supply at a frozen 5K (zero degrees F) and there were no water stops (or ICE stops). I never got thirsty during the run, truth be told, but I am used to running with the belt, so it wasn't a big deal. At the end of the race, though, I was really glad I had my bottle of water. It had remained unfrozen in the insulated holster, and there was no water at the finish - it was all inside, and I needed to walk around outside a little before I was ready to go in. I think it would be more rare to regret running with water when you didn't need it - unless you are far more competitive than I am - which is entirely possible! :)

oh thanks guys, i'll start bottle belt hunting then. Think it would be good for my piece of mind just knowing i could have some whenever. :)

Hi k8! I had forgotten this thread - did you ever find a water belt that you liked? I think you're right, that it's worth the peace of mind. And hey, if you stand next to me at the Minnie, there will be two of us wearing water!

hey corinna,

I have sussed out an asics one that i really like the look of- haven't bought it yet though, lol. It's a bit tricky cos i have to buy online so don't get to try before i buy. Can't wait to meet everyone with my shiny new fuel belt! It's weird because i'm sort of nervous about running by myself and keep reminding myself i'll have all you guys (hopefully) :goodvibes

You won't be alone! Especially if you get a WISH shirt so they can find you easily. :)

I will be running w/o any non-internet friends also.

I hear you on the internet ordering - I did the same thing. Don't wait too long to order it, though. If you do have any issues with it, you want to know what they are well before the 15K, so you have a chance to fix them, or get used to them, or try something else, or even decide that you don't want to wear it after all cause sipping isn't your thing.

And I will be there as well! - you won't be alone and you won't believe how exhilarating it is to run in a group, even a group of strangers. Runners tend to be pretty friendly people, runners at Disney, even moreso, I think! If you go to the Disneyrunning.com website and look through the race reports for the Minnie, several of them talk about making new friends in the race!

smileyk8, I'll also be runnng (or walking) alone, it will also be my first 15K (or any other race). I'm hoping just seeing all the green shirts will help me feel like I'm part of a group. :)
I never thought of a water belt, I think I'll check them out too.

Er, what kind of race has no hydration on the course or at the finish? Isn't that a bit of insanity? :scared1:

i think that's typcial of 5km races over here- i certainly didn't have any water at the santa dash in december. They didn't even have km markers so it was a bit random.

Thank you all for your very kind reassurance, this will only be my second race ever and it def helps knowing there will be some lively green monsters there to chat to and encourage each other before and during the run.

corinna i'm going to take the plunge and order the belt :upsidedow

That particular race was a large bit of insanity. They did have water at the finish, but not outside - you had to go inside to get it because it was -2º F, I guess? It would not have been practical to have water on the course - it would have turned to ice in the cups.
