We are DVC members and have always spent our entire trip at WDW since we buy AP's over there - we like to get our $ worth at WDW. We don't usually rent a car so we never leave the property. We are going down for a week starting August 16 and have been kicking around the idea of going to Universal for a day. We are going to Vero Beach for a few days after WDW so I am thinking about renting a car for the entire trip for a change. I don't know what we're doing yet. Hate to spend another $300 admission (or whatever) for US but know DS would love the change. Want to make sure it's worth it but am not looking to make this an add-on that we do every time we go.
So, back to my question. Can we do both parks in one day if we go EARLY and stay until closing?? Since we are not staying at a US hotel we won't have the advantage of that Front of the Line pass. Is this an unrealistic plan? If you're a roller coaster fanatic which park would you choose if you only had time for one? Do you think that new coaster (Riptide or whatever) would make it worth going there?

I was hoping that by the end of August the crowds might be down a little and it would be do-able if we went on a weekday. Since we pay so much for our Disney AP's it's always been hard to leave the world even for a day...not sure we're willing to part with 2 days. We have multiple trips planned to use them but still... Guess we have plenty of time yet to figure it out - just won't mention it in front of DS until we decide for sure.
