Looking for good, kid friendly, budget friendly dining options for lunch and dinner in Boston. We'll be there for 3 days. We will me mostly in the Freedom Trail/Boston Common/Aquarium area - any suggestions!!! Would love a good, inexpensive (is there such a thing) seafood restaurant!

Thanks,
Tammy

Quincy Market for lunch for sure! It's busy but it's fun and the seafood places are fantastic!

Supper you could try Cheers. Food isn't spectacular but it's a fun place! There is a Melting Pot restaurant near the Commons as well and you can get a $25 coupon from restaurant.com if you're not going on a weekend.

This is what I liked doing in Boston

Place to Eat - Durgin-Park located Quincy Market

Fenway Park - John Hancock Tower Observation Deck - Boston Commons - JFK Library - Harvard (great Natural History Museum) - Sam Adams Brewery Tour (our kids didn't come with us to visit)

We really enjoyed the -Freedom Trail Tour (we did the 3 Mile) Our guide was a music major and sang during our tour! This is something I would do on the first day. You will see much of the cities historical site and can go back to a site if you would like to see more. If it is warm out, take water with you.

Enjoy Your Trip:thumbsup2

I have to disagree with the above posters. Melting pot is neither budget friendly or family friendly, I consider it more an adults night out or a romantic dinner.

I would highly recommend something in the North End for Dinner (Hanover Street), but alot of them are cash only so be prepared for that. Also get there on the earlier side as the restaurants are small, but you won't get a better Italian meal and I would be surprised if you were disappointed.

I disagree completely about Durgin Park, I have not been there lately, but I was NOT impressed the last time and think it's much more touristy than what the locals would do.

Cheer's again, you are going there for name only, food is nothing outstanding.

Since you will be near the aquarium there are several good fish restaurants in that area, One especially, named - no name fish restaurant.

Quincy Market is fun, but expensive some of the outside restaurants are better.

Wow that place is still around. When I was in college that was the go to for parents visits. Great seafood and a fun time always. It was BYOB when I went in the 80's/ is it still that way? I would love to go back.

I have to agree- skip cheers- tourist trapish. And the North End is where to go to eat. I wish I could remember the name of the place we went last time. But rarely have we had a bad meal here. Ask at your hotel. They'll know where to go.

And it isn't a weekend in Boston without an outside Brunch on Sunday. Oh how I miss Joe's!!

We've been to Boston many times and just got back our trip. I agree with what DebMcDonald had to say. I wish I knew of no name fish restaurant. We were looking for a place by the aquarium.

We ate at Quincy Market one night. We sat on a bench outside and people watched while eating. It was fun. While walking the Freedom Trail we ate a pizza place called Regina Pizza. It was on Thacher Street. It was a little off the Freedom Trail but they had great pizza. We were staying in Brookline and ate at a restaurant called Golden Temple in Brookline. They had yummy Chinese food. It was a little pricey but there were lots of families there.

Enjoy your trip!:)

DD14 was there last week with Camp. She ate at Fire and Ice for dinner, the Hard Rock, and Cheers at Quincy Market (for lunch). She really liked Fire and Ice. You can check out their website.

when I worked in town we used to go to alot of these places and alot of other places but you requested the more budget friendly places so I didn't include the others.

For drop bottom price I'd say No Name restaurant. I haven't been in years but it used to be a good inexpensive fry (fried Fish) shop.
I know there is a sushi place out on the piers also that's supposed to be very reasonable priced but I've never been you may be able to google it.

For chowder I'd go either Chowder House in the food court in faneuil hall or the Union Oyster house around the corner.

I honestly think Union Oyster house has great seafood at extremely reasonable prices and its a very historical restaurant (oldest continuously run restaurant in the country and where toothpicks were first introduced to general public.)

Wagamama for fun japanese cafateria style dinning.

I also recommend checking out groupon and buywithme. Both sites offer good deals on a lot of local restaurants.

If you don't want to buy into a long harbor cruise boston harbor cruises does a lunch cruise for I think 12 bucks.

Also if your coming during restaurant week you could make out like a bandit.

Overall your best deals are to be had at alot of smaller mom and pop shop style restaurants.

In Downtown there is a great sandwich joint called chacarero.

There are a ton of lunch spots in the financial district:
Sultans Kitchen

zo
You could also head to chinatown for a large selection of authentic cantonese vietnamese, japanese and thai foods. If your a little adventurous you'll find amazing food and deals in chinatown.

Also visit the visitor information center on the boston common its where the freedom trail starts and everyone who works there is from the local area and they eat in the area so I'm sure they could give you some great suggestions.

If you do go to cheers only do so for their bloody mary's otherwise skip them the interior is not what you think of when you watched the show. Just take a picture outside. Skip legal seafood its over-hyped. Try the pickles from the pickle guy in the boston common there actually good my niece made me try one once. In the North end stop by mikes pastry the lines there for a reason and if you want a huge inexpensive italian sandwich go to Bovas Bakery. I honestly can't think of alot else but there is alot to be found check out Phantom gourmet and yelp for more options/reviews and have fun when you get here.

Union Oyster House & Regina Pizza
Good and an experience without being too touristy.
Enjoy

G'vannis on Prince St. in the North End. Family-run Italian, great food. Last time we were there we had a 2-for-1 dinner special for $20 or $25, included wine. They also have a regular menu and kids menu.

At Fanuiel Hall, definitely eat upstairs at the food court. Maybe not fancy, but there's an amazing variety of food and everyone will be happy.

Ditto the food court at the Prudential Center. Great pizza and Indian the last time we were there, easy to do.

I DEFINITELY recommend taking the Duck Tour, which originates at the Prudential Center. It might seem pricey, but it's worth every penny! The drivers are great and funny, you see all the sights, and then you splash into the Charles for a view of Boston from the water!

Check out restaurant.com for restaurants in the North End. Best bet for sit down meals with kids. I think there are quite a few. Don't forget to use the promo code PLATE for 80% off.

Don't miss Mike's Pastry in the North End for yummy desserts!

I agree with most of the suggestions. Union Oyster House and the North End. A little whole in the wall place is Adam's pizza. It's actually inside a convenience store. GREAT PIZZA and the coffee is the best around. It's not a sit down place...more grab and go but you can take your lunch and walk over to Rose Kennedy walkway across the street and eat there while kids play in the fountains. Love it there. Also, best souvenir shop in all of Boston is the Boston Stone Gift Shop. Cheapest prices I have seen anywhere with lots to choose from and good quality stuff. It's right on the freedom trail, same street as Union Oyster House. Have fun!!!

I agree with Mike's Pastries - OHMIGOSH!!!

I would also add Parish for sandwiches near the Commons and The Barking Crab is fun and inexpensive.

I agree with some of the pp's. I work in the North End so I am always on the look out for budget friendly lunches when I forget to bring my own. I HIGHLY suggest Ernesto's pizza on Salem St. Only order 1 slice of pizza because it is actually 1/4 of a pizza. They have a ton of different toppings. Another great pizza place is Umberto's on Hanover Street. They are also very affordable and are only open for lunch. When they sell out for the day they close, the line can get really long but the prices are super reasonable. The arrancini is great (rice ball with cheese, peas, and meat) I am a fan of Modern Pastry and I also like Lynette's on Hanover too.
Quincy Market is a lot of fun to shop and people watch but I am not a huge fan of the food, it's mediocre and overpriced IMHO.
If you don't mind a somewhat chain restaurant Boloco has great wraps and smoothies :)

Have a wonderful vacation!

We always take out of town guests to the No Name. It is located on Fish Pier, and the broiled seafood is also incredible (just in case you don't want to eat everything fried!).

Maria :upsidedow

My vote is for Regina's Pizza in the North End. Hands down the best pizza I ever eaten (husband and kids are in agreement on this one).

I KNOW one day I'll return to Boston, if for nothing else but for another pizza there. Also, very budget friendly.

I can't tell you how many times I thought of that pizza over the past year....I think it's damaged me, no others come close.

Summer Shack 149 Alewife Brook Pkwy. Cambridge (617) 520-9500
Great place and lots of fun w/the kids

Pizzaria Regina 11 ½ Thacher St. Boston (617) 227-0765
Best Pizza around
